Our house is 40 years old with very heavy, well made sliding glass doors. I have found it's hard to find parts for them and people to work on them. What I found with A-1 is that they were very prompt in coming out. Once they saw the door they knew exactly what it was. The guy was able to come out and deal with it and then put everything back together just fine. The doors are working much better than they had been. I found the company on Angie's List and I had called around to several places and they either didn't know what I was talking about and wanted to charge me money to learn or whatever. When I called A-1 I felt confident that they could figure out the problem and take care of it. The young man who came out frankly was terrific. He got right on the job, took things apart and did the work in a timely manner. He seemed competent and knowledgeable, in general I was very pleased with the work. He actually managed to fix something that I didn't think anyone would be able to fix. I thought the price was fair, especially given what they had to do. They weren't cheap, but also not overly expensive. I called them for something else, but it turned out that it wasn't something they could do and I felt good that they did tell me it was something they couldn't doshow more

The technician came to our house and checked the door. He said it needed some small parts replaced. We had custom-width Jeld-wen composite wood doors installed on a bypass track on our pantry during a 2010 kitchen remodel. Unfortunately, due to their weight and effort of opening and closing them, one of the doors had torn free from the rolling bracket holding it at the top. A1 told us we already had the type of track they recommend, but not the right quality of rollers for the type and weight of door. I was dubious that the solution could be so simple as to just replace the rollers, but they seemed to know what they were doing. First the doors were removed and the damaged one was taken to a door repair shop in San Jose. Once the repair work was complete, they re-installed the doors with new rollers and I am amazed at how effortless they now are to open and close. We were going to replace our sliding doors with new ones since we figured they were hard to close, leaked air etc. Ron came out to take a look at our doors and he suggested that we should repair the sliding mechanism (and add some weather stripping that had worn off) of the doors instead of replacing them - he does installation of new sliding doors as well, and he actually recommended us to keep our doors. He also gave us a quote for the repair that was about 10% of what new doors would cost - so we figured we would give it a shot. And it was the best thing ever!! Starting Phase 3 with Custom Exteriors! Phase 1: Two years ago, my parents moved into our home. They loved the space, but their rooms were drafty and difficult to keep warm. The installers were courteous, clean, and worked quickly. The rooms look nicer, keep a more even temperature, the outside noises are dampened, and my parents are happy. Phase 2: Last year, we decided to replace the windows in the rest of the house. We were so pleased with Custom Exteriors that we chose them again. Now the front of our house has a much cleaner, more beautiful appearance, the heat of summer and cool of winter are not so noticeable inside, and we don’t hear street noises like we used to. So now, Phase 3: This year we decided to replace our wobbly old sliding doors, and called Custom Exteriors again. We hesitated due to budget, but finally we asked ourselves: why wait to replace windows and doors until we sell the house, when we can enjoy all these upgrades for ourselves?! A1 On-Track repaired and tuned up sliding doors in 2 ot the apartments that I own. The hardware is 50 years old and the team has a full inventory of different rollers and casters that cannot be found at Home Depot. They converted cranky doors that would not move, to doors that slide smoothly and easily. One of my tenants is disabled, and she was so pleased with the change. The patio sliding glass door was no longer sliding easily. A-1 scheduled Jeff to come look at the door. I was quoted $225 to replace rollers at the appt. or $525 - $575 to replace the track if needed. Rollers were replaced for $225. Track is damaged, but isn't standard for replacement. I was told the whole door needs to eventually be replaced since the track cannot. Meanwhile, the door is working fine for now until I can decide on a replacementshow more
