The only other company we used was Service Master at Scituate Harbor we which used we had a basement flood. The service they provided was remediation of water damage it was a flood so water damage restoration. The last time we contact them was July of 2013. The approximate cost of the service was $3,000. They came in and removed the water. Remove water from basement. They place drying equipment around. They removed the carpet and the padding and prevented the mold – that’s the big one. They were very good. They were also very responsive. They were timely. They were thorough. I think we ended up having no problems as a result of that so no molds. I would say that a quick call and they were right out and took care of the emergent situation as quickly as they could.

Both the person who came to give us an estimate (the owner of the company, if I'm not mistaken), and the foreman of the job were extremely punctual, courteous, and willing to educate me on the water/mold situation in our basement. They scheduled us quickly, worked neatly, and were even considerate of preserving our flower beds when they brought large equipment into the house. They sealed the basement so that no fumes or particles entered the rest of the house, and left their equipment here for a few days to finish the job. We had water damage on all 3 floors or our triple decker in Boston due to a clogged drain on the roof. ServPro came to remove the damaged plaster and recommended Hamel Painting to do the repairs. Hamel did excellent job of providing a detailed quote and working with our insurance company. They did a great job of plastering and painting as well as sanding and refinishing our floors.

Our street flooded in a heavy rain and the water flowed into our underground garage and into the finished basement. I called Newton Fire and Flood and Phillip called me back within 10 min. He and his workers came to the house within a half hour. Phillip is extremely knowledgeable about removing flood water and avoiding mold. He was very professional and acted quickly. After I realized that our insurance policy does not cover flood damage, I was able to negotiate a price with Phillip. He had all the equipment and workers here within minutes and they worked for most of the day. They removed water from the finished part of the basement. Fortunately, there was no mud in this area, just water. The garage had a lot stuff that they moved outside, sorted the damaged/wet items from the non-damaged items, removed water and a layer of mud. The garage floor looked like new again. Phillip recommended taking off the baseboard in some areas and making holes in the walls, which was done by our contractors, who are finishing construction in the house. Newton Fire and Flood left big fans and heavy-duty dehumidifiers all over the garage and basement for several days to dry out the area. Phillip came in a couple of times to check how it was drying. We purchased our own moisture meter on Amazon, which I would recommend doing. It wasn't expensive, and helped us assess the moisture level in the walls. By the time, Phillip picked up the fans and dehumidifiers everything had dried sufficiently.

Went really well. Phil the owner came to my house quickly and got going on what needed to be done. Phil did all of the work with the insurance all I had to pay was deductible. Everything was as good as new after they left. I also learned his company does more than just fires and floods, they also do sewer back up clean up, hopefully that never happens but good to know there is a company that takes care of this also.

Taking out a cabinet, they ripped up a piece of the subflooring that I had to pay to have patched by a contractor and I just learned that the flooring co. is charging me another extra fee to get it right to put new flooring over. It turned out to be more additional charges that I have to pay for. It was probably just from the way the cabinet was attached to the floor but not happy I have to pay the extra $ to correct the issue.

Recent Review: The install went as smoothly as possible in a single day, by the time I go home from work the old floor had been removed, the new floor was down, and they even replaced all the furniture(which is pretty heavy) back into them room. It was like they were never there! Joe and his crew continue to impress, I have recommended him highly in the past to friends, and the fact that he took it upon himself to fix the floor for a problem which had nothing to do with his work just shows how dedicated Joe is to having flawless work and happy customers. Recent Review: Originally the water damage was thought to be only in one small area. The men from Servpor assessed the damage and found that the entire first floor of wall to wall carpeting was wet and needed to be removed. They talked to my landlord and after he ok'd the job, they removed the damaged carpet. They were very careful about my belongings and were professional in every way. After the carpet was removed they assessed the damage to the floor and the walls. They removed the baseboard and drilled some holes in the dry wall to dry it out quickly and prevent mold. Three industrial fans were brought in as well as a dehumidifier. They took my area rug to be cleaned and left instructions about running the fans for at least 4 full days. Servpro sent out employees to remove the equipment and they arrived on time and returned my cleaned rug.

From start to end I rate the quality of work performed by the Handyman was exceptional. However, after calculating the cost of the total job, $2305.00 minus materials and permit and cleaning, the total labor cost was $1720.00. The Handyman performing the work was on the job roughly twenty hours. That puts the labor rate at roughly $85 per hour. I don't think the person doing the work got anywhere near that amount per hour. If he did. great. But I doubt it. That means that the owner has built in a per hour rate for himself and added it to the rate of the Handyman doing the work. I rate this company very high in quality and very high in price. I don't think the labor rate was fair but paid it anyway. In the future I will hire a single professional and get his hourly rate before starting the job.
