Beautiful lichens, a myriad of prepossessing tongues —> lichen (n.), 1715, from Latin līchēn (“ringworm”), from Ancient Greek λειχήν (leikhḗn), 'tree moss, lichen', likely from λείχω (leíkhō), 'to lick up', from PIE root *leigh- 'to lick'

A great start to build upon i.e. would love to see a more comprehensive version that integrates degrowth and just transition.

As future biomass demand will far outweigh supply, this report proposes strategic use while emphasizing forests as carbon sinks & recycling: 🌞Less biofuels, more renewables 🪵Focus on biomaterials e.g. paper packaging to replace plastic & wood construction to replace concrete

If you're in a financial position to do so, today is a great day to make reparations to indigenous communities and organizations that support them The Indian Residential School Survivor's society seems like a good candidate:

This is good. Nowadays this would most likely be an infographic, an interactive article or a YouTube explainer video, which are good too. There are many ways to communicate interesting science & data & I’m glad we have them all.

Humans outlive their ability to drive safely by ten years, yet most cities are built on the assumption they’ll do it forever. To allow for successful aging in place, we must rethink our car-first streets and provide amenities within a short walk or roll.

I’ve actually been saying for years I’d love to see tree planting popularized as a coming of age ritual. Closest thing in Canada was all the college students spending their summers tree planting in Banff as an unofficial rite of passage—making money, working out & having flings

Few things excite me more than imagining cities with clean waterways for swimming & healthy soil for public gardens, trees & rewilding. Breathing clean air, seeing people out walking, rolling, cycling. Beekeeping as a common hobby. More birdsong. Hope to see it in my lifetime.
