Dude the reason you don’t know about the shit the women around you have been through isn’t because they haven’t it’s because they don’t trust you.

Can confirm: if women find you trustworthy, they will tell you the shit they've been through.

I feel like women are often leery to share that information because there *are* men who will use that vulnerability to manipulate and in some cases even shame them. It's understandable they're not likely to just bear those wounds/scars to just everybody.

I’ve only met one man IRL aside from my brother and father who didn’t ultimately use my disclosure of abuse to manipulate or hurt me. One.

That's fucking disgusting. I don't know whether that's legit just the norm or if it's just prevalent enough to keep women from being more open, but any amount of taking advantage of someone who opens up about their abuse like that is horrifyingly unacceptable.

In my experience, and in hearing others over the years, men see women who have been abused as easy to impress (and thus easy to control), desiring of safety (and thus easy to control) and having disclosed their Achilles heel if ever the need to break their self confidence arises.

I understand the dynamic...but I'll never understand why men make that choice. I can't sympathize with the choice to use someone's trauma against them like that.

I don’t think a lot of people see it as trauma. I think a lot of people, men and women, see the ways women are mistreated as just the way things are, and the women who are traumatized are simply the weak ones. It’s a personality trait they have, not a thing that happened to them.
