State and Metro Area Employment, Hours, & Earnings
SHARE ON:
The Current Employment Statistics (CES) program produces detailed industry estimates of employment, hours, and earnings of workers on nonfarm payrolls. CES State and Metro Area produces data for all 50 States, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, and about 450 metropolitan areas and divisions. CES National Estimates produces estimates for the nation.
Each month, CES surveys approximately 131,000 businesses and government agencies, representing 670,000 individual worksites.

In December, unemployment rates were higher in 7 states, lower in 5 states, and
stable in 38 states and the District of Columbia. Nonfarm payroll employment
decreased in 1 state and was essentially unchanged in 49 states and the District.

Jobless rates were lower in November than a year earlier in 235 of the 389 metropolitan
areas, higher in 133, and unchanged in 21. Nonfarm payroll employment increased over
the year in 95 metropolitan areas and was essentially unchanged in 294.

Ninety-five metro areas had increases in nonfarm employment from November 2021 to November 2022, and 294 were essentially unchanged. The largest over-the-year percentage increases in employment occurred in Atlantic City-Hammonton, New Jersey, (7.3 percent), Charleston-North Charleston, South Carolina (6.6 percent), and Davenport-Moline-Rock Island, Iowa-Illinois, (6.4 percent). read more »
