In October, unemployment rates were higher in 24 states, lower in 1 state, and stable
in 25 states and the District of Columbia. Nonfarm payroll employment increased in
7 states and was essentially unchanged in 43 states and the District.

higher in 94, and unchanged in 31. Nonfarm payroll employment increased over the year in 95
metropolitan areas and was essentially unchanged in 294.
