Our office experienced some fire damage, and they were called in. They did not waste any time and got right to work. They had the numbers to get the job done within a short time, and we got back to work in just one day.

NorCal Construction & Development Inc

We had had a house fire in 2008. We got this company through our insurance agency. And they were great. They have done a great job. I have used them since. They are very fair, reasonable, and nice. They are all my friends now. I can not say anything else good about them. They did everything from the plumbing to the building.

NorCal Construction & Development Inc

I found Norcal for a friend who had a condo fire 10 years ago and their work was excellent. When I had a fire Jan. 2012 I was quite pleased they were on the list of contractors approved by my insurance company. Although there were a few problems as would be expected during any home repairs, they addressed all of them and the job was completed to my satisfaction. The craftsmanship was excellent and they assisted me with some issues I had been having prior to the fire. All in all I believe my experience was about as trouble free as could ever be expected from any contractors. I am very happy they helped me with my home and wholeheartedly recommend them for any home repairs or improvements!

AAA FLOOD & FIRE
5.0
I had an upstairs bathroom toilet overflow while sleeping. We woke up to our upstairs hall, stairway and much of downstairs covered in approximately 2 inches of water. We called AAA Flood and Fire at 6 a.m and they had a crew here in less than an hour. They dried out our house in 3 days and were able to install new carpet and tile with a couple of weeks. They really worked with us and made us feel at ease during this time of turmoil. They worked closely with our insurance adjuster to help expedite the payout of out claim.

SERVPRO of Campbell

What a nightmare. Our insurance company recommended these guys after our fire and to make a long story short, they didn't inventory what they removed from our house and then "lost" a lot of our stuff that we wanted back. They referred us to their insurance company who refused to pay for anything that wasn't on their inventory! Owner apologized and said he would make it right, then refused to actually pay anything. Thousands of dollars of our stuff gone that we can't afford to replace, thanks to Servpro of Campbell.

They did a very good job, were cordial, and had a reasonable estimate. They showed commitment to being there and doing the job the way it should be done. The end result is excellent and we would highly recommend them.

Sterling General Construction Inc

There were complications due to scheduling the contractor and making design decisions, cost and esthetic trade offs and code issues. This is a complex process that is thrust upon you without warning due to fire. For a number of reasons the project got off to a slow start, making design decision, and getting contractor time slots. but never was there a sense once things were lined up that things were anything other than done in a timely manner and with due urgency. I chose Sterling due to another Angie's review. It said that Sterling was a bit more expensive than others but did great work. It specifically singled out Pat, the project leader, as particularly capable and helpful. You really need a Pat on your project because he will tell you what you can safely do both due to code, insurance, and best practices. It is critical that you know that your contractor is guiding you based on fair information and not what is convenient for them. We didn't always see eye to eye but I trusted his word on what was feasible and he was free about explaining the reasons. There is clearly an attitude of doing things right. Almost no one has gone through a fire repair. Suddenly you have to make design decisions for the whole house. Replacing what you wanted to change means you have to design the whole house then execute on the part covered for the repair and revisit it all later for full renovation. It is an opportunity to build your dream house a piece at a time. But you are not prepared and the clock is ticking. Then who knows who does what when an insurance rebuild? So the next thing you need is someone who understands what will be covered. What is reasonable and what you pay extra for. Pat was very good working with me and my insurance adjuster (USAA) to get excellent code upgrades but never with a hint of impropriety. The build up to the production crew turn over is a long and tedious process that Pat handles down to every detail. The profitability of the contractor and lower cost comes from having it all together when it needs to be. I joked that once Pat hit the "go" button it would take a day to do the project as it would fall into place perfectly...not quite that good. You always had the sense that it was close to that. To keep my costs down a number of the items were pulled from the contract for me to perform. That flexibility allowed a number of very nice upgrades. Lastly, if you have fire insurance you MUST have code upgrade coverage. It is a small adder in cost and gigantic savings when needed.

Hometown Restoration

We had experienced a water leakage into our carpet on the first floor, so I contacted experts of Hometown Restoration and spoke with the owner, who was helpful and answered all of my questions. They made a schedule and arrived at our house on that day. First, they inspected the place nicely and then explained to us the whole process of what they would be going to do. It was excellent advice, so I hired them to fix our floors. They could altogether remove all of the water and dry things out, and we are delighted with the work they did. If you face any issue with fire or water damage or need any help regarding other services, I would highly suggest them. They did an excellent job, and it was a fantastic experience to work with them!

JKM Fire Protection
1.0
Very unprofessional! After meeting several times with Jeff Creech to discuss the project, I sent JKM a deposit (for design and materials) of $2,850 for a fire sprinkler system in San Francisco and essentially never heard form them again. After four months of repeated update requests from both Jeff and his father Mike Creech, only to get the occasional technical rhetoric (that should not concern me), I asked to have my deposit back. That was over 1 year ago. I have filed a complaint under the Better Business Bureau with no results. I am now forced to file a small claim. I have been through 3 different fire sprinkler contractors now each with poor experiences is responsiveness and incomplete bidding. What is with this sector of sub-contractors? Is there a company out there that can step up, fully take responsibility to comprehend a project and get it done?

AMERICAN TECHNOLOGIES INC

It went about as poorly as it could possibly have gone. We had other contractors lined up via Dry Force (who did the initial dry-out), but ATI and our insurance convinced us to switch to ATI. Big mistake! Initially our rip-out had been scheduled for that Friday. ATI delayed the rip-out by 2 and a half weeks! The rest of the story is a similar nightmare - they wouldn't let us even look at cabinet designs until the entire estimate was approved by insurance (this is typically a 6-8 week lead time item). So, at this point, our kitchen has been ripped out, ATI no-showed on a scheduled appointment to __start__ looking at flooring, counter tops, and cabinets, and (since this has been going on since the start of the job), I just fired them. I would never work with ATI ever again, and I suggest you don't either. They just got themselves fired from a reasonably large job - the entire time I just got the impression they simply didn't want our work (for whatever reason)

BAY AREA MOISTURE CONTROL

Very good. Here are the details: called a number of companies that do sump pump work. Only these guys and another vinyl sheeting company came to the site. I chose these guys because their upsell wasn't as strong and I appreciated that. Our crawl space has a lot of ducting and not much space to crawl. They removed dirt, installed the plastic barrier and then the vinyl (?) sheeting. Epoxied it to the house. Finished as expected. Once they left, I went under the house and was very happy with the install - the points of attachment and fastening were strong and numerous. I was able to get around easily. The best part is the house now is smell free. I started by wanting a sump pump and ended with something altogether different, but I think my initial idea was bringing a garden hose to a forest fire. This is the way to go.

Fire & Water Damage Recovery
5.0
The experience with Justin at Fire & Water Damage Recovery was excellent. They were referred by the plumbing company that serviced my sump pump. We still got 3 estimate, Justin's estimate was in the middle but I felt good with Justin based on our phone conversation and the referral so we went with this company. Justin did tell me that he might have estimated on the high side because he does not like to surprise the homeowners. What a surprise when I go the final invoice. The final invoice came in much lower and was very close or lower than the lowest estimate I got. Justin and his team also took pictures of how the place was before and after for me to see. They even took pictures of the pathway that they took to get to the crawl space to assure me that they kept the place clean when they got in and out. I was very satisified with Justin and his company.

RDM Construction

The job went very well. We lost some time to gladly accommodate the El Nino rain storms. There was a great deal of mud, but the crew did a great job of cleaning up each day and at the end of the project. Rick was very professional throughout the contract process and thoroughly documented the additional work asociated with the 2 Change Orders. He was on site everyday and checked the work from the previous day and always discussed the new work for the day with the crew. Rick handled all the coordination with the sub-contractor that poured the cement for the new foundation and the company that ordered and installed the new garage door. Construction is very messy and noisy and Rick went out of his way to accommodate any requests from my neighbors to move the trucks or mitigate the noise in the early house.

PROFESSIONAL CARPET SYSTEMS

I found this company in the yellow pages when I had a water leak. Two men came out, and from the moment they got here, it was obvious that they were going to try to get as much money as possible. They claimed that they found mold and that they would have to cut out parts of the drywall, cut out wood under the sink, get it tested, tent parts of my house, and do lots of work on my place which would be very expensive. They told me not to be concerned, because my insurance would pay it. There was only a small amount of what may have been mold, and a county health officer said I just needed to cut it out and nothing else needed to be done. (My handy man did it for under $100.) They put in dryers in my home to dry the carpet, quoting me one rate. When they came to retrieve the dryers they tried to charge me a higher price because these were larger dryers. (When they realized I would not stand for them raising the price they backed off.) I fired them and got another company.

Dry Force
5.0
My experience with DryForce has been a life changing experience. After a main line back up under my house left me a with an extremely messy situation with water and sewer damage heavily exposed, the plumber on site referred Dry Force to me to help with the water clean up and restoration process. Devastated with the mess and the hassle i assumed i would be facing, i was gratefully surprised to have Dry Force deal with all the legalities and made the over all experience professional and pleasant. I mainly spoke with individual named Matt Watt who was extremely supportive and accommodating to my needs. He explained that he would like to send someone out to look at my house and offer me an evaluation at no charge. Mr.Watt was quick to send someone out and assured me the issue would be taken care of in a timely manner and they would work completely around my schedule and needs, which they did ideally. Every individual i dealt with through Dry Force was well-mannered, always on time, and understanding to my particular situation. Being a single mother struggling to make ends meet, like most, Dry Force dealt directly with my insurance company to get the charges covered. Dry Force even went to far as to cover my deductible of $500 leaving me paying nothing out of pocket! I am extremely grateful to have Dry Force's help and would recommend them to anyone who needs water, mold, or fire restoration. It's companies like this that make me use Angie's list!!!

Fire & Water Damage Recovery

First of all, someone always answers the phone when you call their number as they offer 24 hour emergency services. Ours was not an emergency but it is refreshing to call a company and have someone answer the phone right away. I explained that we had a leak from the roof in a small bathroom and thought it may have come from a skylight; and that wanted to have it serviced to prevent mold. They asked what year the house was built and I told them 1957. They said if they needed to open up the wall they would need an asbestos report because many houses built before 1970 had asbestos. He said they would recommend a company. We had a fire at our house eight years ago and had an asbestos report from that event which was acceptable to the company and work was scheduled for two days later. Technician, Mario and assistant, Blanca, called ahead, arrived on time, and explained the drying process. They used a hand-held diagnostic tool to determine if there was water damage inside the wall and showed us the display with dark blue area showing water damage. They covered the work area and told us what to expect. They removed an 18" x 53" section of wall that exposed the water-damaged area. We could also smell that there was water damage. Mario said it was very unlikely there was mold growing but he would treat the area for mold just in case. They removed all debris by vacuuming the floor . They set up the industrial-strength drying equipment and showed us how to turn in on and off in the event we may need to turn it off as the exposed area was close to a sleeping room. I was able to sleep without turning the equipment off by just putting a foam earplug in the one exposed ear that was away from the pillow. The equipment ran for approximately 36 hours. Another two employees came back two days later and removed the equipment. Everything went well and we are very satisfied with the workmanship, professionalism, and care rendered by WDR employees. We would be happy to recommend them to others and to use them again should the need arise.

CENTRAL COAST CASUALTY RESTORATION INC.

Water damage? Imagine walking into your newly purchased house anticipating where you're going to put your couch and your TV only to find a waterfall in your kitchen. Yep, it happens and it stinks. You thought fire does a lot of damage...water is just as bad. We had a pipe burst in our kitchen ceiling after a freeze and because we weren't living in the house at the time, water was pumped in for 10+ days reeking havoc on 4 rooms- the kitchen, the family room, the office, and a bathroom. Central Coast Casualty Restoration to the rescue! After a few days of an attempted dry out by a different company we were referred to CCCR by our insurance company. The insurance company works directly with CCCR so that's one less thing we had to deal with at that moment. CCCR came in within 3 days and tore all 4 rooms down to the studs, immediately planning the rebuilding process. Given that we didn't live in the house (or even the area, we are Bay Area transplants) CCCR was great about coordinating meetings when we could get down for them, working a lot via phone, email, and fax. We didn't do everything remotely, but Matt (our project's contractor) was a fantastic communicator often texting us pictures of the daily progress. With a project this large (over 1200 sq. feet of damage) and our living 3 hours away, you'd think it would be hard to stay on top of the minute details, but Matt and his team were focused and determined to get us in our new house ASAP. They were also great about referring us to other businesses in the area...sprinklers/ irrigation, good coffee shops, Farmer's Markets, housekeeping...whatever I asked for they always had someone or someplace to check out! We can't thank CCCR enough for their hard work and our beautiful house! As I said to Matt, "I hope we don't have to meet like this again, but I'm so glad that we did meet!" *As a side note about price...they probably aren't the cheapest, nor are they the most expensive, BUT they do excellent work!*

VANDERBILT CONSTRUCTION INC

I would caution anybody from using this construction firm. Our house burned down and Vanderbilt came and did a bid. They quoted a very reasonable price at the time and said they specialized in smoke and fire damage. I questioned many of the items they had on the bid because I knew they were quoted very low. For example the windows they quotes 3500 and I know that because we had replaced our windows with Milgard that may cover 2 of the sliding glass doors. They said that they would work out any issues with the insurance company. After we signed the agreement with them we didn't hear anything for weeks. Every product they tried to install in our house was of substandard quality and when I insisted to replace what we had they would tell me there would be a supplemental charge. The whole job was a nightmare and I was stuck between the insurance company and Mike Bouchard (owner). Our project manager changed 3 times during the job and it was always very difficult to get anyone to call me back. I consulted an attorney about not paying them but they said that it would cost more to go to court than I would get back and that the laws favor the constrution industry. It has been 6 years since our house was completed but when I found out about Angie's list I couldn't not post this to warn others. I am not even sure they are still in business but if they are or if Mike Bouchard has opened another business, I would not use them under any circumstances and I guarantee you will regret it. He is personally dishonest and runs his business in a dishonest fashion.
