Anderson Home Services

Anderson Home Services did excellent remodelling work on the house we bought. They came to look at our proposed site for the carport, and after discussion on the best way to do it, emailed us a quote. Communication between us was very good. They did a great job, and they have followed up in fixing any problems we have had since the work was finished. They are decent, honest people that we could trust. Eric and Dave are also very creative contractors who came up with some great ideas for our new home. When they tore out the walls in our bathroom, they thought of how to change the layout so that we could have an ensuite bath. They have many years of experience building homes and had lots of practical suggestions. We also got them to subcontract other remodeling jobs in the house, from putting on a new roof to changing the heat / air conditioning system. They have a high standard for their subcontractors, and we were very pleased with all the work Anderson Homes Services did on our new home.

He was slow at best and his estimate of 50,000 to 55,000 grew to over 80,000 and he kept giving me a sob story about how things had to be done a certain way and that was costing more.

Hal is an amazing carpenter. It is hard to believe he did all this work alone. My wife and I can't believe how this deck turned out. Can't say enough how pleased we are with the final result .The only downside to this project is the quality of what Home Depot's version of KDAT wood not impressed .It was supposed to be the best wood. It's not Hals fault though. Iwished I had saved so old pics of our old deck so we could show people what we had and our dream deck we have now.So if your looking for a great and reasonable carpenter then do your self a favor and give Hal a call.We will call him to improve our front porch. That's the problem he is in high demand because of the quaility of his work and attenion to detail. Thanks Hal for giving us our new deck.

In short - I could not have done it without these guys. They are the most honest, trustworthy, dependable and skilled workers I have ever had the pleasure to work with. I brought them in on recommendation to build a large deck - I kept them for 6 months to be my primary contractors on the rest of my complete house renovation. They take immense pride in their work and I built a complete trust in them to provide me with critical guidance through every step of the renovation. My recommendation--do NOT hire a general contractor - hire these guys, they do their own work (don't sub out) and can call in other trusted teams as necessary. My house is absolutely gorgeous and will last a lifetime - thanks to these guys. My highest recommendation.

Builds a heck of a house. Does reno's too. Good builder knowledge and follows the project from inception to completion. Easy to work with on punch lists after all is said and done. Doesn't disappear after all the monies have exchanged hands. Came and left highly recommended.

Contractor insisted that we proceed on a per man-hour basis at $35 per. Days past and progress was extremely slow. Several times the contractor billed me multiple man hours for stopping at a supply store and picking up materials for the job. First time he charged 2 man-hours ($70), then he tried to charge me 3 man-hours to pick up some scaffolding. The contractor did none of the work and actually slowed up the workers by being on site talking to them. It became obvious that he was trying to stretch out the job. About the 3rd. or 4th week, he brought in a worker to repair the stucco on the outside ,around the window. The stucco man said the cement, the foam board, and sand which the contractor purchased and billed me for, was not the right materials. I contacted the contractor and asked him to return the materials and purchase the proper supplies. The contractor told me I should do that because, if he had to return them, he would have to charge me for the time required to do that. I had already paid him over $70 to go get this stuff and he now wanted me to pay for his time to correct his error. I immediately terminated him and hired a local man to finish the job, on a bid basis. The new guy finished in a timely manner, performing excellent work, and for alot less than the original "bandit' would have charged. I feel bad for anyone unfortunate enough to unknowingly hire this contractor.

He was very patient and attentive to my concerns. We plan to have him return to continue doing other odds and ends that either didn't get done during our renovation of the home or did not get done properly. One of the things I really like about him is that he doesn't "trash talk" other people's work. Meaning he doesn't talk others down to build himself up. He comes in and looks at what you need and gives you an estimate on what he can do it for. Nice guy, very straightforward and does beautiful work.

Real Nice and Professional Sales Consultant came to our home on a Monday to review the work - jotted down measurements and said he would return on Thursday to show us samples - we did have an ice storm however the other two vendors delivered as promised that same week (we were all without power). Storm cleared and power restored He called on Friday with a promise to provide a quote via email. Days went by and he kept promising to send quotes "should have it to you in the next hour" "can't send from my home per company policy - will send tomorrow" "will send by noon today" - - - NEVER got a quote. Met him on the 16th, received 1 phone call message on the 20th, and several emails starting on 22nd through the 28th then NOTHING! So...."F" Their loss - we have heaps of work ($$$) that needs to be done and was looking forward to having one vendor, oh well. Plus my parents wanted to see how this company performed as they need their windows replaced too. (This is why I joined Angies List)

EXCELLENT!!! "The Deck" - Hal did a great job on everything. He took out our old deck and added a 45' x 30' deck off of our kitchen that goes 1/2 way around our above ground pool. Some would say, it's just a deck but we know better. This thing is AWESOME and has become the centerpiece of our home. Hal added a 21'x24' roof over part of the deck which perfectly integrated with our existing roof and looks as if it were part of the original house. But that's not all, Hal added what he calls the Florida treatment inside of the covered area, 2 fans, some electrical outlets, superb finishing work and wallah, our own paradise right outside our kitchen doors. To simply say it looks great is an understatement. The roof and decking is as solid as granite. Hal used 6"x6"s on all the posts which makes it just scream class and stability. To top off the deck Hal added world-class railings and framed in the lattice work underneath along with hinging the sides so we also now have more storage space than ever!!! "The Fence" - Hal ripped out our old chain-link and wood fence then replaced it with a piece-by-piece built fence along with a 16' drive through gate and 2 large man-doors which are all super solid and extremely well built which was our requirement in this wind-tunnel we live in and to keep our 2 large-breed dogs in. It's a fence, it looks great and works as planned. But the review does not end there. Since the fence was built we had a tree fall on it and a small tornado. A large wild cherry tree fell squarely on the fence, the fence was soo solid that it literally held the tree up while only losing a few pickets. It saved our pool. That's old world craftsmanship there! Hal came back and had it fixed in under an hour. The tornado was a different story. The tornado hit across the street and took out 30 large trees then jumped over the house and took out another 8 trees in both our neighbors yards. We did not even lose a fence picket. Maybe it was a miracle but I think it was just good craftsmanship on Hal's part. "The Porch" - Hall added 6' onto our existing front porch along with all new decking and rails which match our back deck. It look great. "The Lean-to" - Hal added a 24'x12" lean-to onto our existing shed. It has a tin roof to match the shed and looks just as it it was supposed to be there. Very solid and very well-built. It to survived the tornado which because of it's length off of the shed (12') really surprised me. Again, that is really only due to solid craftsmanship. Overall, Hal is very meticulous and somewhat of a perfectionist. He is a 1 man show so it takes a little longer but the quality of work is well worth the wait. Hal was even very (EXTREMELY) patient, careful and friendly with our 2 large-breed St. Bernard/Great Pyrenees mix dogs. They can be a handful at times but Hal was very understanding. So if you have pets just know that Hal will take care of them as if they were his own while he is working with you. YES, we would use Hal again and YES we highly recommend Hal to all of our friends and family. PS.. I have not figured out how to upload pics to this site but if you want to see pics of the work just email me at [email protected] and I'll send some right over. We don't mind sharing as we are very proud of our new additions to our home.

Positives: * Paint looks good overall. * The job was completed in a reasonable time frame. * Price was mid range of quotes recieved. * They were courteous and friendly during the repair. Negatives: Prior to the contract I was asked to be home for the painter to inspect the house. I changed my schedule to accomodate and he didn't show. After the doors were replaced the front door could not be locked for two days, On the third day they chisiled the bolt opening out and it locked ok but I noticed the bottom screw missing today and there is only a small amount of wood for the screw. ( a longer screw will be neccessary to get beyond the void. The back door knob would only turn the bolt in one direction. They sent a technician out, and it worked for a few days after he tweaked it, then the same thing occured. They sent the same technician (after I called several times and waited several days) to replace the door locks. Worked ok for a few weeks but the deadbolt now won't align and latch on the rear door. They got a drill into a hot water pipe while installing the siding. They went and bought pvc and suspposedly repaired the pipe. A few days later I noticed water coming out the bottom siding board and discovered the hot water had filled the concrete block foundation wall and leaking. They sent plumbers to repair but refused to pull the house board and restore it to original, Now when I replace my sink cabinet I'll have extra plumbing expense. The siding was improperly cauked (skimmed over and not filled) in numerous areas. They sent a man by after five and he didn't have a ladder, He thought he would be caulking inside and wouldn't need a ladder or daylight. He caulked what he could reach from ground level and didn't show up the next day. After I called again he showed up with a helper and caulked all open joints as needed. The joints he caulked are still good, however additional joints from the original skim job have opened and will have to be caulked. I called today to seek further repair on the caulking and door issues and was told off in no uncertain terms, I couldn't get a word in edgewise to state the problems. So much for the one year warranty He invited me to sue him! Maybe I will, but I'm definately reporting him to the BBB.

However, we may have pros in another category that can help with your project.

Carpenters provide a wide range of services that span across many different parts of the home. Knowing what role carpenters play will make it easier to budget and to find the right person for the job.

How much does hiring a carpenter near me cost?

Most homeowners pay between $250 to $500 for the services of a carpenter.

If charging by the hour, expect to pay $35 to $100 per hour. Factors that will affect the overall cost include the following:

Does labor come into play?

Labor costs charged by the hour or at a fixed rate depending in the value of the project.

What about tools and materials?

A carpenter near you will factor in the materials needed for your project. You may have to purchase all required materials, while the carpenter will typically provide their own tools.

Does the homeowner need to do anything for worksite preparation?

If your worksite is difficult to access or it makes the carpenter’s work harder, carpenters may charge more or spend more time on the job.

There are typically three types of carpenters.

  • Rough carpenters: offer structural related work such as framing a house, building outdoor structures, or installing features in the home.
  • Finish carpenters: focus on more specific tasks such as doors, furniture, and windows.
  • Repairers: carry out general repairs to structures around the home.

Why hire a carpenter near me?

Their widespread roles and abilities make any project within the home much easier to carry out. If you’re building a new structure, they construct the outer frame and ensure that it’s structurally sound. They also carry out smaller-scale repairs to various objects around the home. Make sure you work with a carpenter near you who has experience and is friendly to customers.
