    Surrounded by flowers that out daughter picked from out garden before bed, we told her not to say goodnight, but to say goodbye. It seems strange to have such a strong emotional bond to a rodent, but there it is. Goodnight Lucy, sweet dreams.

    Tea parties, playing "house", just playing anything together, it was adorable to watch. Rats are very social creatures, so these interactions, and bonds, became stronger. Honestly it's for the best because of our upcoming move overseas, good closer for a young mind I suppose.

    Imagine the emotional connection you might have to a two year old dog, barely older than a puppy, and then... gone. That's about the average life expectancy of a rat. Lucy's sister, Summer, died a few months ago. Thankfully our daughter stepped in...

    Rats are incredibly smart - which is why they can easily be a menace on society as wild critters. As pets, however, they genuinely show affection, never bite, each have their own personality and you really grow attached the them. The problem? They meet their end too quickly.

    Probably the last night for our pet rat, Lucy. At the beginning of the pandemic we got two rats. I always loved them growing up, and I knew we'd need something to help our daughter (nearly four years old at the start) through the lockdowns to come. Rats are amazing creatures.🧵

    Vibrant Star Colour in snowflakes can be caused by three things: - A prism effect in the crystal structure - Chromatic aberration from the lens - Thin film interference between thin layers of ice and air (bubbles). This one has it all :) Shot on S1R & Canon MP-E 65mm

    My image is currently in second place here. Two days left to vote... anyone, anywhere in the world can vote. My opinion is certainly biased, but I believe my image deserves to win more that a 3D caricature of an ant. Your help in achieving that goal would be great appreciated!

    Here's the "behind the scenes" image of the setup. Shot with a Meyer Optik Trioplan 100 (which isn't even my favourite triplet!) on a L-mount bellows system to create soap bubble bokeh effects on a very small scale.

    Lost in the Signal We’re on the doorstep if a Federal Election in Canada. I asked myself, “Can would you visualize politics?” – and I came up with this. This is a dandelion seed covered in water droplets, lit with red and blue LED flashlights from different angles.
