Reviews in Harrisburg for Installing Screen Doors

Shreveco Building & Remodeling

We are really happy with our beautiful new front doors and the work that ShreveCo’s employees, Kevin, Larry and Greg did. Randy at ShreveCo helped us decide the type of door to purchase and even the color! He wrote a contract for the materials and labor that we reviewed and signed. It did take some time arranging appointments and then for the doors at HMI, a Philadelphia company, to be built and spray painted. Because we have an almost 100 year old Craftsman bungalow, we had to have a custom front door made. Home Depot, etc. didn’t have the size nor style of dental molding (none) that we needed. HMI made a highly insulated fiberglass door with wood graining, 6 lights and no dental molding. Our back door was a standard size. We went with a wood grained steel door that was vertically half window. Both doors came pre-hung. Randy recommended that we purchase a standard Andersen storm door for the back and then he would install it. The Andersen order took longer than expected to arrive, pushing back the installation date. But ShreveCo was ok with that and even picked up the storm door for us. Our old house door openings were not square so a bit of extra measuring and custom trim sizing was needed, all done accurately and professionally. Its wonderful that our new doors are all airtight and open and close easily. The men moved the doorbell location and threaded a bell wire for us. The new doorbell button required a larger bore hole so Greg carefully made it larger. That was going the extra mile. The three men who worked on our house couldn’t have been nicer and more professional and I felt safe with them in the house. They were industrious and their work was thorough. If either my husband or I had questions they were happy to answer them. The job site was left clean and neat at the end of each day. While the time estimate was 2 days, it took ½ day longer mainly because of the extra work needed to fit our wonky door openings.

The sliding screen door to my porch rusted out on the bottom. It was a job considered too small for the door replacement companies I contacted. It also involved a door with non-standard measurements. Andy came over, took the measurements, sent me a price that day and was able to provide a door compatible with the homeowners association requirements. He also fixed the some hanging weather stripping on one of my kitchen windows while he was here measuring my screen door....no charge. I highly recommend HomeRite for this type of job and I definitely will use them when I need to repair/replace my window screens. Actually, I will call them first for any type of indoor or outdoor "handyman" job to see if it is something they do.

I am having a problem with two windows that are now sweating. The door was installed incorrectly; there was moisture between the seal and the jamb. They removed the entire door completely and re-installed; this corrected the issue a little. They keep blaming the manufacturer for this issue. They have been out multiple times to correct this issue, but continue to make excuses and continue to push me off. They never call me back, and I am forced to contact them directly. The door is bowed out on multiple corners, which keep it from sealing properly. The moisture was so bad that the hinges are now rusting. This issue has been going on since January when the initial install was completed. The issues were resolved. They were very responsive on getting the representatives out to take care of the problems with the doors and the windows.

The two installers showed up on time. Removed and installed front door and screen door. They were courtious and did a great job. Took 8 hours to finish the job. Wayne the salesman came to check their progress about 2/3's of the way through to make sure everything was installed as requested. Wayne was extreamly helpful in picking out the colors materials and screen door. All in all it was a great experience and I have a beautiful door. I would recommend Choice Windows to anyone.

Dropped off two window screens with bent frames and requested new frames. The guy called and said he could straighten the old ones "pretty darn good" instead of making new ones, so I said OK. Mistake--they are still bent, don't seal the window opening and look terrible. Also, he didn't replace the broken hinge points, which would have been easy with the screen off, and he couldn't find replacements for the broken catches. Management said they would make me new screens, but I would still have to pay for the "repair." So he talked me out of getting new screens, but I'm out $50 and I'm going to have to get new screens after all--somewhere else. I believe in supporting local businesses, which is why I paid for the work instead of leaving it unclaimed, but I won't use this business again. They don't stand behind their work.

I had purchased an Angie's List promotion offered by Home One Home Improvement of $99 for three hours of labor. When the quote was received, I hadn't realized that the $99 had already been deducted and I agreed to pay $190. The work was performed well with no issues or concerns. When I received the bill, I realized I still owed $190 more dollars. I thought it would be $190 minus the $99. Most of the effort was labor (glue and screws were needed) and I had already paid for 3 hours of labor. I followed up to gain a better understanding as to how many hours were required to complete the job, but to no avail. So I still can't understand how another $190 in labor was needed. All of my concern pertained to the office staff. The handyman who performed the job did it very well. Since I would love to have a company that I could rely on, I dismissed the issue and decided that I should take responsibility for the confusion. I had a lightning strike over the summer that did some major damage to a side door in my garage. I called Home One for a quote for this issue and again had confusion with the quoting process and Kyle Wimer. He had given me a quote which I then asked to have updated with them adding to the quote to do some minor electrical work. The new quote went up by $790, (from $2500 to $3290) in part because the original quote was missing some details. When I indicated that I would revert back to the original quote and forget about the electrical work, I was told that I had requested a "rough estimate" - which I hadn't done- and that they wouldn't honor the original quote. So, I disregarded the quote and did the work myself. This was the second time I had concern and confusion when working with the office staff and have since decided to not give them my business.

Recent Review: About a year ago I moved into a new home that had a screened porch with a beautiful view. I had left behind a traditional constructed porch that was enclosed and had casement windows. My white wicker furniture was waiting for a home, but wasn't constructed to deal with rain and snow. I proceeded to get four estimates - two for a traditional porch structure and two for a sunroom structure. All came in amazing close in price. I decided on the Garrety Glass Betterliving sunroom option due to the openness of the view, the professionalism of their staff, the quality of their materials, and recommendations by former customers. I was extremely pleased with the entire process. The first thing I noticed was their concern for the stability and safety of the porch, which was on wood pillars, to be able to sustain the additional weight of their high quality and heavy glass. They were the only group to carefully assess the current posts and point out some major splits. They also were concerned that two posts may not meet building codes due to the distance between them. I was glad that remediation was addressed at the onset and included in their estimate, and that I could be comfortable with guests and grandkids being safe on the second story structure. The quality of the total structure, I felt, definitely exceeded that of their sunroom competition. The salesman worked with me on the details I wanted including the white framing to go with my wicker, the ceiling beadboard, reusing the current ceiling material to enclose the insulation under the porch, and putting damp resistant drywall as well as window/door casing to have the porch match the interior rooms in the house. Also included was a mini split HVAC system to make the room usable year round. Not only was I impressed with the company's materials, the two young men who did the construction were wonderfully collegial, organized (they gave me a daily list of what they would be doing for the two weeks of construction), flexible, attentive to detail, and excellent craftsmen. I would highly recommend them to anyone building a porch; the project was completed when scheduled and the cost was as agreed upon. I now have a beautiful room with an overall unobstructed view of the area along with breathtaking sunsets. I'm very happy with the finished porch and would highly recommend Garrety Glass Betterliving sunrooms as well as their team of salesmen and carpenters.

Recent Review: The first time I scheduled repairs, there was a mix-up on the date (not mine but there's), so we had to re-schedule. However, since then, Action Door has been prompt and reliable. Everything works!! The caulking looks beautiful; the kitchen cabinet drawer looks and works like new; the patio screen door looks great and is finally functional; the faucets are doing the job perfectly. I was so impressed that I asked them to install a new garage door opener -- which, by the way, is awesome. I'm extremely pleased with Action Door and their workers. I'm having them come back to work on a shower door! My thanks to Dean Martin (owner), his son Austin, and all their staff.

I have gone here for over 15 years and have always left satisfied. It will be a sad day when this small "mom & pop" store gets eaten up by a Lowes or Home Depot.

Recent Review: Perfect. This is the 4rth time we've used choice: Windows, Siding, Doors, and now screen doors. this represents about $40K worth of work over the last 8 years. Each time the middle price of 3 price quotes, and very punctual, high quality work with professional people. I wouldn't even look at other contractors now. I trust them.
