New Scholarship for Graduate Nursing Students
On September 21, 2020, the Foundation for Academic Nursing announced the creation of the Deborah E. Trautman Future Nurse Leader Scholarship. Funded by Liaison International, AACN’s partner in NursingCAS, this scholarship and leadership development program was created in honor of AACN’s President and CEO Dr. Deborah Trautman. This $3,500 scholarship is designed to recognize graduate nursing students who aspire to leadership positions in academic nursing. In addition to $2,000 to cover educational expenses which is sent directly to the student, scholarship recipients will participate in a one-on-one leadership development experience with Dr. Trautman at AACN’s headquarters in Washington, DC. Up to $1,500 of the scholarship award will be used to cover travel expenses for the three-day leadership development program.

COVID-19 Student Support Fund
The COVID-19 Nursing Student Support Fund provides one-time grants to nursing students enrolled in AACN member schools who need financial support to complete their nursing programs and/or meet life expenses.
With more than 2,800 applications received, nursing students from all 50 states and the District of Columbia were chosen for support following a competitive application process. The Foundation for Academic Nursing is seeking additional support from other corporate and individual donors for this fund to expand our ability to help more nursing students in need.

Faculty Scholars Grant Program
Last fall, AACN announced a new research grant program for nurse faculty. Funding for this program was raised through proceeds collected from sponsorships in AACN’s 50th Anniversary guide. More than 150 schools of nursing and colleague organizations contributed to this guide, which raised $100,000.
The funding will be distributed to support four $25,000 faculty scholarship projects through 2022. Two awards will be offered in the 2020-2021 academic year, and two will be offered in the 2021-2022 academic year. The focus of these scholarly activities should reflect current issues in nursing education or practice and support of AACN’s strategic priorities.
