  • AACN Seeks Feedback on the New Position Statement on the Research-Focused Doctorate

    October 15, 2021

    As part of the consensus-building process, AACN is seeking comments from AACN members and stakeholders from October 15-November 12, 2021. Members also are asked to provide comment and ask questions at the task force update planned for October 31 from 9:30-10:30 am (ET) at the Academic Nursing Leadership Conference. 

  • Important Update Regarding In-Person Attendance at AACN Conferences

    AACN is committed to protecting the health and safety of conference attendees, partners, staff, and constituents. To enable in-person events to take place with lower risk to participants, effective October 1, 2021, AACN is requiring proof of COVID-19 vaccination for admittance to any AACN in-person meeting and event.

  • AACN Launches New Leadership Network with DEI Focus

    In keeping with our strategic priorities, AACN is pleased to announce the launch of its eighth Leadership Network: The Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Leadership Network (DEILN). This latest network grew out of AACN’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Group (DEIG), which was launched in 2018 to bring nursing school faculty and staff together to provide guidance to AACN and member schools on meeting diversity goals. With membership in DEIG now surpassing 120, AACN moved to evolve this advisory group into an official Leadership Network.

    Used to define quality in nursing education, The Essentials: Core Competencies for Professional Nursing Education outline the necessary curriculum content and expected competencies of graduates from baccalaureate, master’s, and Doctor of Nursing Practice programs. With the endorsement of the new AACN Essentials by the membership in April 2021, academic nursing is moving toward a new model and framework for nursing education using a competency-based approach.

    As a primary advocate for advancing diversity and inclusion within schools of nursing, AACN is pleased to announce that its Board of Directors has endorsed a new white paper titled Promising Practices in Holistic Admissions Review: Implementation in Academic Nursing. This new resource provides a roadmap for schools looking to recruit more students from underrepresented groups into the nursing profession using evidence-based strategies and admissions redesign.

  • 2020 National Faculty Meeting Underway – November 15 through December 30

    AACN is asking member schools to schedule a second National Faculty Meeting between November 15 and December 30, 2020 to share the current draft of the Essentials with faculty and practice partners and collect any input. AACN has put together several tools and resources for schools to facilitate a meaningful dialogue. These resources include an overview video, link to the latest draft Essentials, a summary of feedback from a recent input session at the Academic Nursing Leadership Conference, proposed discussion questions, and a link to provide feedback from your institution.

  • New Call for Video Submissions on Diversity

    AACN announced  a  call for videos for a new section of our Gallery of Leadership focused on addressing racism and inequality and fostering inclusive learning environments. We invite deans to submit a video and share insights on how your school is working to help end racism and foster equitable change.
