Cleary is the University Dean for Early Childhood Initiatives at the City University of New York and the Executive Director of CUNY’s New York Early Childhood Professional Development Institute. Gary Dine, Executive Director of Fiscal Administration, is responsible for the administration of sponsored programs within the Office of Academic Affairs (OAA). In this capacity, Gary supports the day-to-day fiscal activities of over 190 University projects, a mix of programs and initiatives supported by private foundations, New York City agencies, and New York State agencies. Additionally, Gary developed and oversees the Employee Resources and Staff Development unit and the Operations unit of OAA sponsored programs. The Employee Resources and Staff Development (ER&SD;) unit works to ensure that the sponsored programs workforce of over 300 full time staff is agile and innovative and assists employees in sustaining a healthy and equitable organizational culture capable of adapting to change. Jonathan S. Gagliardi currently serves as the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Academic Effectiveness and Innovation for the City University of New York. In this role, he focuses on creating and facilitating evidence-based policies and interventions that promote student success and equity and enhance teaching, learning and advising. Previously, Dr. Gagliardi has served as the Assistant Vice President for Strategy, Policy, and Analytics at Lehman College, Assistant Director of the American Council on Education’s Center for Research, Chancellor’s Fellow of the State University of New York (SUNY) System and the Deputy Director of the National Association of System Heads (NASH).
A co-founder of Taking Student Success to Scale, a NASH initiative aimed at leveraging systems to make dramatic gains in student success and equity, Dr. Gagliardi is recognized for his expertise in organizational transformation, and innovation and entrepreneurship, having served as an Advisory Board member for the Association of Public and Land Grant Universities Commission on Innovation, Competitiveness and Economic Prosperity, and for the Center for Leadership and Service at the University at Albany. Dr. Gagliardi holds a Ph.D. and M.S. in Higher Education Policy and Leadership, and B.A. from the University at Albany. Jonathan’s research has focused on the intersection of leadership and data to promote higher education innovation and organizational transformation. He is co-author of The Analytics Revolution in Higher Education: Big Data, Organizational Learning, and Student success (Stylus, 2018), and has been quoted in the New York Times, the Chronicle of Higher Education, Business Officer Magazine, and other media outlets.

Sarah Truelsch is CUNY’s Director of Policy Research. She is one of the lead architects of CUNY’s comprehensive remediation reform plan and on the leadership team of CUNY’s Strong Start to Finish grant for developmental education reform. She also leads CUNY’s data sharing and collaborative research work with the New York City Department of Education and the Research Alliance for New York City Schools. In addition to her work defining college readiness and increasing college access, her other current research projects include work related to transfer students, adult learners, academic momentum, financial aid policies and student diversity.
Before joining CUNY in 2010, she was a Research Associate at the American Institutes for Research at New American Schools and a consultant for the New York City Department of Education. She has an MPA from New York University’s Wagner School of Public Service and a B.A. in Political Science from the University of Chicago.
