“even the people who feel most strongly about climate change on some level can’t quite bring themselves to believe in it.” I think about this all the time.

This isn’t the first time fire has hit a large forest offset project. Last year spotted another Oregon fire burning a forest credited in California’s offsets program. Here’s her eagle-eyed thread from Sept. 2020. (4/10)

We're barrelling head first into a cataclysmic climate disaster of planetary scale, and our governments and economies are COMPLETELY disregarding the emergency exit that would spare us. We're not going to make it, and it's not because "solutions" don't exist. A 🧵, I guess. 1/

I do not think we economists have a good way to model just how bad a 2, 3, 4, or 5C world would be. We always think about the climate as just another input in the production function, but this misses the fact that a stable planet underlies everything.

Bumped, due to billionaire going to space. That's one of the big problems with climate communication, that its impacts accumulate over days, years, and decades. So there is always "breaking news" to displace it in our day to day conversations and media coverage both.

Are schools and media showing you in a meaningful way that we're deep in a terrible climate and ecosystem breakdown zone at 420ppm of CO2 during capitalism? Look at Australia. This is just an example of what appears to be happening everywhere. But don't take my word for it..🧵

This clip is absolutely the wildest thing you'll see today. It is UK police raiding an artist residence because it contains a structure used in an Extinction Rebellion protest against News Corp outlets defending fossil fuels and denying science.

It is disappointing to see that Spotify is basically killing podcasts. I think Spotify has been generally quite good for music, and I understand its desire to expand into podcasts, but it has, once again, chipped away at the open podcast ecosystem. /1

I play the climate numbers game like everyone else, but whatever numbers you prefer the point is this: We mustn't assume climate change proceeds gradually. Earth's climate system or subsystems may well be shifting abruptly now, and we won't exit the danger zone in our lifetimes.

Sherwin Siy was my colleague at Wikimedia. He was one of the sharpest legal policy minds I have ever had the pleasure to encounter, let alone work with.

Every reporter today should be comfortable explaining the basic connection btwn extreme weather and climate change. They should also be comfortable explaining the basic fact that climate change is caused by fossil fuels—and that the industry’s deception is why we’re in crisis.
