Some personal news: Tomorrow is my last day ! On Sept. 9, I'm launching a daily newsletter dedicated to original reporting + analysis on the climate crisis. It's called HEATED, and it would mean the world to me (literally) if you signed up:

This may be the spiciest blog we have ever published on Earther, the site that canceled the Rockefeller tree, told people not to watch Seaspiracy, and advocated for banning cruises

This is the Mississippi River headwaters right now. Minnesota in a severe drought. Enbridge is taking 5 BILLION gallons of water from our rivers & lakes to drill tar sands pipeline thru. Does this pass for sound environmental policy, ? ?

No one has shaped my thinking on issues like carbon removal and geoengineering more than and , so it was a real honor to join them for this discussion. Thanks to for having me and asking sharp questions.

We've known that climate change was loading the dice against us for a long time, but now we know by how much. The west coast heatwave was "virtually impossible" without climate change. Analysis by et al.

This is EXACTLY why campaigners have pushed the UN Climate Talks to ban fossil fuel lobbyists and require public disclosure of any meetings with the industry. The WHO bans tobacco lobbyists — time for the to ban fossil fuels.

Here’s a fun fact most folks don’t know: I briefly worked for a conservative TV news conglomerate. So yeah, I have some concerns about Fox’s new weather channel.

"This place is going to offer big salaries and attract good weather reporters who are likely to self-censor on climate for the sake of their sanity and job security," tells of Fox News' weather channel & climate change.

Sen. Ron Johnson insisted again last week that he is not a climate change denier, but CNN's KFile found video of him from just weeks earlier telling a Republican group that it is "is bullshit…it is.”

This story is representative of how the majority of the GOP approaches climate change today. They don’t just deny the science. They deny that they deny the science, to try and convince you they actually care. They’re literally gaslighting the planet.

This is what I mean when I say climate change is not something *happening* to us. It’s something being *done* to us.

Imagine being a U.S. Senator in 2021 while millions of Americans suffer from record-breaking heat, drought, fire and flood, and being confident enough to say climate change is “bullshit.” Clearly he does not think there will be consequences for this.

Fox News is covering my segment w/ on ! They accuse us of "wildly overstating" climate change and say peer-reviewed climate science was "debunked" by an "energy expert" (pro-fossil science denialist) bc he tweeted about it

Couldn’t explain all that in 15 seconds so I just went with the ol’ “ITS ACTUALLY A GOOD STORY IF YOU THINK ABOUT IT MAYBE YOU COULD WIN SOME AWARDS IF YOU COVERED IT MORE IDK”

My journalism teachers/mentors embedded the idea that a “fucked up” story = “exciting” bc you’re covering something that really matters. But this is not actually an exciting story to tell at all. It’s awful and draining and that’s another reason we need more reporters telling it.

I actually agree with this completely, even though I’m the one who said it. I really don’t like selling the climate story this way, but it’s the best way I can think of to get through to the old guard of journalism.
