    Just 20 years ago, cars could freely enter and park in Delft’s historic core. Then a center-left coalition narrowly (19-18 votes) passed an autoluwe binnenstad (‘low-car city center’) policy. Now not a single resident or merchant misses the days when cars choked their streets.

    We covered nearly 50 kilometers on our rental e-bikes in Overijssel today; a distance unfathomable (for us non-athletes) on a traditional bike. These machines have incredible potential to replace car trips on a mass scale; but only if we create safe spaces on which to ride them.

    With Melissa’s parents visiting from across the Atlantic, today we made a 170km. (train/e-bike) pilgrimage to the Canadian War Cemetery in Holten. It is the final resting place of her Great-Grand Uncle Kenneth Gardener, who died while liberating the Netherlands at the age of 22.
