Please watch this video. See how every day humiliation of Muslims has been so normalised that we aren't shocked by videos like these. Nothing is shocking anymore about this violence. Makes me so sad, and angry, and hopeless. What can we do?

Officially, Madhya Pradesh reported just 4,461 Covid deaths between January 1 and May 31 2021. The excess deaths seen in the same period are over 42 times the reported Covid death toll, though the entire excess death toll is not attributable to Covid.

Who does this? No one. Not for a second do I doubt that had I given her my account number, she would have transferred Eidi. She was just that person. Generous, even when no one was looking. Specially when no one was looking. How does one mourn the passing of a friend like her?

This was her - dependable. I knew I could reach out, whenever I wanted. Cos she made sure I felt that way. That one had access to her. No idea how many ppl she gave this comfort to.

Always the one to keep others interests/needs…even at the cost of her own. That was Surekha.

Where does one start even? I met Surekha way back in 2009-2010. 2011 was a really bad year for me - personally & professionally. She sent love & help, depending on what I needed when. She lifted me up, rallied behind me. I will never forget that. Never.

One quick story about : After Chinese government refused to renew her visa, & I met with gov't officials. They said we were welcome to send literally any other reporter — just not Megha. Who exposed Uighur camps from the outside in, & just won a Pulitzer.
