Sunrise at Bronte Beach the morning after Australia’s hottest day on record, ahead of a day that could be even hotter. No filter - by 5am the air was already acrid with smoke. A state of emergency has been declared in NSW for the next seven days.

We need *well-validated* serology tests so we can identify those who can safely go back to work. An immune workforce will be an essential one going forward. Many tests under development all over the world.

  7. Grim chart of the day- Italy has now surpassed China as the country with the most coronavirus deaths, and it did so in half the time. It took 54 days for reported fatalities in China to top 3,000. In Italy, it took just 27 days to hit almost 3,500 deaths.

  8. Complacency about coronavirus in any age group is misguided- young people are falling seriously ill. In Italy, almost a quarter of 28,000 cases were aged 19-50. 30% of early cases in US were in patients aged 22-44, with up to 20% requiring hospitalisation.

So glad someone wrote this piece. Masks can save lives, & the strident anti-mask tone in the U.S — especially when cases spread asymptomatically — is deeply unhelpful.

  11. After that horrific domestic activity data yesterday, Goldman Sachs now see China’s economy contracting 9% in the first quarter on-year (previous forecast 2.5% expansion). Full year GDP forecast revised to 3% from 5.5%. Upside risk - “forceful” PBOC action

And we get temperature checked EVERY TIME we enter a building. This includes the office / gym / pub etc. And if you duck out for a coffee - Guess what - you line up and get checked again.

It is difficult to put into words precisely how bad an idea this is. At 195 confirmed cases today, every person with a spreadsheet can tell you we're only 2-3 weeks away from complete lockdown. This will only bring this on faster, make it harder to contain, and hurt people.
