A valuable addition to my must-have list of photo/video gear

A valuable addition to my must-have list of photo/video gear
The Neewer GM39 gimbal head has quickly become a daily-use piece of hardware in my photography and video kit. While I got this as a small, more portable swivel head for use with my Neewer TP71 monopod, I am loving it on my travel tripod, as well. If I’m using a tripod or monopod, the compact GM39 is definitely going to be with me.Upon receiving the GM39 gimbal head, I was immediately impressed with the rugged, precision-machined construction and the smooth operation of all its functions. Additionally, the size of the knobs makes for easy changes and precise adjustment of drag when panning, tilting or leveling. There are several other features that make this a new favorite. First is the ball-type base that makes leveling my camera quick and easy. This is a feature that is missing from a number of otherwise-similar heads, and one that I find very important. Second, the option to mount the head to either a 3/8-16 stud, as expected, but also the inclusion of an Arca Swiss-style mount, which makes quickly moving the GM39 from a monopod to a tripod super fast. Of course, I love the easy-to-use 90-degree tilt mechanism, which is a primary reason to buy this kind of hardware. This system works quickly and effortlessly, which is so important when framing up shots of moving subjects. Finally, I greatly appreciate the Arca-type clamp and the accompanying elongated mounting plate. The former makes the GM39 compatible with all my camera mounting hardware. But the elongated mounting plate, when attached to one of my camera bodies and a long lens, allows me to more easily balance the camera/lens combination on its center of gravity. This is one well-thought-out piece of gear that is well worth the price. I have zero complaints, so awarding it 5 stars is a no brainer.

This might not be the best gimbal setup for a mono pod. But it works well enough for the price. I didn't want to commit to a more expensive gimbal, since I wasn't sure how I would like a gimbal setup on my monopod to begin with. I have to say that I like this one quite a bit - it's very light and works amazingly well.

Nice little gimbal head for use with longer lenses. I have it in use with a 70-200mm and it's much nicer than using the lens collar to rotate my camera, and it doesn't put it too far off center, so the weight is still pretty much centered.

This unit may be adequate for lighter lensed but my Nikon 600G at 11lbs. is too much for it. Could not lock it down. I returned it

It's great! I use it for shooting surfing on my long lens. You'll need a sturdy tripod is all I recommend but this product is great.

I had started using my monopod more for a walking stick than anything else. If I wanted a gimbal head I'd take my bigger one on my tripod which meant weight I don't always want to deal with. Kind of dissuaded me from taking out my Sigma 100-400mm f/5-6.3 Contemporary Lens very often even though I love that thing.

This compact NEEWER Gimbal Head is so handy, lightweight and easy to use once I got used to it. Didn't take long, just had to take a bit of time to balance the lens and make sure I was loosening the correct points on the gimbal. For some reason I have a tendency to start to loosen the Arca clamp. I have to put a sticker or something or just use it even more.

The gimbal head is well made and sturdy, nicely finished with only a few functions needing adjusting and not too time consuming to balance. There are scale markings that I've photographed to note so I don't have to start from scratch each time. The pan movement is smooth.

The lens isn't the heaviest but the Gimbal Head/Monopod combination makes the whole thing even lighter and I'm using it more. Overall this has been a great choice.

I have yet to try it on a tripod but will eventually and will update if there is anything relevant to add.

In the meantime I'll be at the beach annoying the seagulls and pelicans.

This head works very well on a monopod, especially when using a larger lens. I mounted my Sigma 150-600mm 5-6.3 Contemporary DG OS HSM Lens and Nikon D-800 using an Arca Swiss plate I already had on the lens mount. It all works great together and makes handling the larger lens on a monopod much easier than my previous setup.

I previously would use a rather large ball head, which worked but was heavier than necessary and switching between horizontal and vertical shots was cumbersome. With this Neewer "Gimbal" head, moving from landscape to portrait is a breeze and also quick.

The build quality seems good and the knobs feel robust. Once tightened down, I have confidence it will stay in the desired position. The Pan feature is a nice addition, however not really necessary with a monopod since normally you just rotate the monopod. The head's pan action is pretty smooth, however.

I do appreciate the use of the Arca Swiss mount since many of my lenses and cameras already have an Arca Swiss plate attached it and is my preferred mount standard. The only real disappointment was the omission of any kind of storage bag or case. Otherwise, I'm happy with this head, especially when used with the lens/camera combination seen in my photos.

This is a solid gimbal head featuring an easy adjustment knob. Everything feels well constructed. The adjustment knob turns smoothly. Adjustments are simple and quick to make. Fits perfect on my monopod. Love it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great mini Gimbal
Reviewed in Canada on June 21, 2024
I use this on my monopod instead of a gimbal. Much smaller and lighter. It takes a little getting use to, as you have to mount it on your lens grip sideways, and then leave the grip a little loose on the lens to rotate the camera from horizontal to vertical
