The Housemaid Is Watching: An absolutely gripping psychological thriller packed with twists Kindle Edition

“You must be our new neighbors!” Mrs. Lowell gushes and waves across the picket fence. I clutch my daughter’s hand and smile back: but the second Mrs. Lowell sees my husband a strange expression crosses her face. In that moment I make a promise. We finally have a family home. My past is far, far behind us. And I’ll do anything to keep it that way…

I used to clean other people’s houses—now, I can’t believe this home is actually
mine. The charming kitchen, the quiet cul-de-sac, the huge yard where my kids can play. My husband and I saved for years to give our children the life they deserve.

Even though I’m wary of our new neighbor Mrs. Lowell, when she invites us over for dinner it’s our chance to make friends. Her maid opens the door wearing a white apron, her hair in a tight bun. I know exactly what it’s like to be in her shoes. But her cold stare gives me chills…

The Lowells’ maid isn’t the only strange thing on our street. I’m sure I see a shadowy figure watching us. My husband leaves the house late at night. And when I meet a woman who lives across the way, her words chill me to the bone:
Be careful of your neighbors.

Did I make a terrible mistake moving my family here?

I thought I’d left my darkest secrets behind.
But could this quiet suburban street be the most dangerous place of all?

Millie used to clean people’s houses and now she has her own. Her and Enzo have worked so hard to created this perfect life for their children but the new neighbors might be a problem. Millie thought she left her dark secrets behind her but how far will one woman go to protect the life she so carefully built?Sometimes I think I’m smart, other times I read a McFadden book 😅. I’ve read a decent amount of her backlog and I still never know what is coming next. This whole series had me on my toes and none of my theories are ever right. Thrillers always remind me why I don’t make fan theories videos cause I have no clue what’s going to happen I’m just enjoying the ride. I think this book was the perfect series closer. It definitely blew my mind 🤯 and definitely think it is worth reading!!!!!

"The Housemaid is Watching" is a captivating read that kept me hooked from start to finish. The novel intricately explores the complexities and challenges of raising children, weaving in twists and turns that add depth and suspense to the narrative.

One of the standout aspects of this book is its portrayal of the delicate dynamics within a household. The story delves into the nuanced relationships between parents, children, and caregivers, highlighting how communication—or the lack thereof—can significantly impact family life. The author masterfully demonstrates how keen observation and subtle interventions can help manage and guide the behavior of children.

The plot is full of unexpected twists that keep readers on their toes. Just when you think you have everything figured out, another layer of complexity is unveiled, making it difficult to put the book down. The suspense is well-maintained throughout, and each revelation adds to the rich tapestry of the story.

In summary, "The Housemaid is Watching" is a compelling and thought-provoking novel that skillfully addresses the intricacies of child-rearing and family communication. It’s a must-read for anyone interested in psychological thrillers and family dramas. I highly recommend this book for its engaging plot and insightful commentary on family dynamics.

I loooooveeee all Freida McFadden books and this set was no exception!
However give this book 3 stars because while the plot is intriguing and the characters are well-developed, I loved seeing what life married to Enzo is like but I found some parts of the story to be predictable and the pacing a bit slow at times. It felt like in some areas it dragged and I was anticipating a "The Shock"
However, Freida's writing style is soooooo engaging and the suspense the second guesses maintained throughout the book! This is by far a decent read for fans that love mystery and suspense.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading "The House Maid is Watching" by Frieda McFadden. The book is fast-paced, with vivid scenarios and characters that feel incredibly real. The tension between Millie and Suzette is palpable, making it feel like you can almost hold it in your hand. Janice's busybody character is also well-crafted, making it easy for readers to identify with her.

The book is well-written and stands on its own, but I did notice a few areas for improvement. Firstly, the third book feels more like a standalone than a sequel, with an age gap of over 10 years between the characters. This made the reintroduction of past characters from books one and two feel a bit laborious.

However, the twists and turns in the book are expertly crafted, leaving me on the edge of my seat. Some chapters had me sweating, while others made me hesitant to turn the page. Frieda McFadden's skill at crafting suspenseful storytelling is undeniable.

Unfortunately, the ending felt a bit rushed and disappointing. It seemed like the book needed a few more chapters to wrap up the storylines satisfactorily. Specifically, Suzette's forced confession felt unnecessary, and the resolution of Enzo's release from jail and Martha's storyline could have been handled better.

Overall, I enjoyed the book, but the ending could have been improved. Review by Sifelani Willie Selepe.

What can I say. Freidas latest book is another 5 star in my opinion. Her writing style is first person, witty and very entertaining. This book like all the rest move quickly and kept my attention with a dose of suspense and funny observations from the protagonist. Full of misleading innuendo and twists to keep you guessing and excited to read more. Naturally a huge twist at the end I wasn't expecting.

I've read ALL of Freida McFadden's psych thrillers. (just Not her 'medical humor books) There were only a couple that were sub-par, but all the rest were absolutely stupendous. Definitely my favorite author in this genre, and I always automatically buy each new books she writes.

The first 2 books in this series were flawless. The Housemaid is probably my favorite of all her books. So I might be a little hard on the sequels.

As usual, the writing is engaging and it's hard to put it down. But this books has a few flaws; hence only 4 stars.

Without any spoilers, I'll just say that a major reveal was left unresolved. I'm guessing it was intentional, to set up the next sequel? Something happened to a character but it was vague as to what exactly, and the other character closest to that one didn't seem to know what happened, and it just got glossed over.

This is unusual because that character should have figured it out, or at least asked questions to find out exactly what happened.

It's a pretty big thing so I'm wondering if the editors told the author to leave it out, OR Freida plans to wrap it up in the next sequel.

Also, the explanation for everything was a little contrived, as to the timing of how it all went down.

I'm nitpicking here; it's STILL a great read, even with those flaws. Just Not quite as brilliantly awesome as some of her other books. Not one of her best but still better than most.

This most recent book in the Housemaid series took me a little longer to get into. It’s starts eleven years on from where the last book ended and Millie, now married with two children, moves to a home on Long Island. I didn’t like the way the author turned Millie into an almost naive 40 something year old. After everything that Millie had been through previously, and now working as a social worker, she seemed almost oblivious to the signs that her kids weren’t doing well with the move. Obviously, in true Frieda style, the story picks up and then I was hooked. It’s full of the twists and turns we’ve all come to expect, but with one twist that I didn’t see coming. A very satisfying read and I’m glad I stuck with it.

Well another Freida McFadden book shelved as read! Book 3 of the trilogy did not disappoint. It was fast paced and it had some crazy moments, especially in the second half of the book. It was very entertaining and that's what I look for in a book. It wasn't as thrilleresk (I know that's not a word but I couldn't think of one to use) as some of McFadden's books are but enjoyable none the less. I gave this book a 4 star rating.

This book had a different feel compared to the first 2 books in the series, it was somehow more 'grown up'. However it was still extremely well written and enjoyable,
and everything tied in perfectly at the end with a great finale.

5.0 out of 5 stars binge-worthy finale to The Housemaid series

Mrs. Lowell, Millie’s new neighbor, warmly welcomes her and her family to the quiet cul-de-sac. But when she sees her husband, Enzo, her expression changes. When she settles to her family home things start happening. The Lowells’ maid makes her skin crawl, and she sees a mysterious figure lurking nearby. A woman from the house opposite advises her to be careful with neighbors. Suddenly, her once peaceful suburban street becomes the most dangerous place she has ever known and she begins to think perhaps she should not have moved there. Some secrets are revealed and conflicts arise as she struggles to save her family.

Millie and Enzo, my favorite quirky characters, are back. Millie is a multi-dimensional anti-heroine with questionable morality, and Enzo is her perfect counterpart. Their children introduce new facets that are refreshing and the story is quite suspenseful with a murder mystery element that I did not foresee – pure Freida! The time shift to 11 years ago was perfect and the new neighbors are very much creepy. Although the pacing slows down in the first half, the latter part of the show is very stimulating. Just seeing old characters and how they interact with each other was the highlight of the episode.

I am so sad that this series is over! Freida McFadden did a particularly great job with the ending as she gave the audience both a desire for more and a sense of contentment with the binge-worthy finale to The Housemaid series.

Read it if you like
✔️ Mysterious neighbours
✔️ Suburban secrets
✔️ Watcher is the shadow
✔️ Psychological twist
✔️ Family under threat

Happy reading!

WOW! just WOW!!

From the beginning I was extremely surprised and did not expect what we were introduced to, but I was extremely happy with it as well.

It was absolutely brilliant trying to figure out what Millie was going to end up involved with this time round as she always finds herself in situations like the first two books, but I was surprised by this one.

The whole book was brilliant, kept me guessing which is what I liked about the first two, but the introduction of a few new characters was good as well, but I was really surprised by the return of some old characters as well, even the mention of old characters was perfect.

From chapter 58 onwards I was shocked to be honest, and the last chapter (epilogue) definitely surprised me, but it was written amazingly and I was drawn in even more than I was with the rest of the book.

I really shouldn't be surprised anymore with one of @fmcfaddenauthor books, but I was genuinely surprised and shocked with this one, but I thoroughly enjoyed every moment of it 😊.

If you have read the first two books and haven't got this yet, you definitely need to get it, or maybe sweet talk a family member or friend in to getting you a copy 😂.
