Its a quality well made Key Cob light
I'm not an expert in video production, but the integration of the Neewer app with all compatible lights has certainly caught my attention. While these lights might not meet the exacting standards required by professional videographers, due to issues such as light consistency, they are an excellent choice for beginners or those just starting out on YouTube. The Neewer lights offer a solid performance that's sure to satisfy, and while I can't speak to their long-term durability just yet, the quality of materials used in both the CB100c ( fully made out of aluminum and fan noise well controlled by variable speed) and the RGB1 LED Tube is visibly superior. What's truly remarkable is the ability to create scenes within the app, a feature I couldn't achieve with GVM lights. As of now, I'm quite impressed. Considering the current promotions, it's hard to find anything else on the market that matches the price, quality, and stability offered by Neewer. Initially, I considered starting with Amaran lights, but their price is almost three times higher, and I doubt I'd notice any significant difference in color accuracy at my level of expertise. I plan to provide an update in the future, but my initial impressions are very positive.

This works great for the times I need color on set. I use it both on a spotlight attachment and also with softboxes and the price for what it does is amazing.
The app works great so it has proven to be a great tool for my work.
I just got the brighter version (CB100) because this is a great light and I am looking forward to a bit more punch from the higher wattage unit

First off there is no substitute for having more light output and that is evident when I put this CB100C side by side with my other lights. This is my first light to have CCT so I can dial it in to match the colour of the other two, which are 5600° K and not CCT adjustable. That gives me up to 3 sources of light, the trifecta of documentary/interview scenes. The Hue and Intensity adjustments are going to have me experimenting. I like what they are creating. The FX features are not what swung me to getting the CB100C but I am trying them out. What I might do with the FX is to shoot them separately on a plain screen and composite those in later in editing.
The back panel controls are becoming more familiar through use. The rotary knob applies changes from turning for values and also from pushing it to step into different aspects your are adjusting. For example the row of square buttons are where you select the top level feature, the display indicates you are in that feature; the knob is then what you use to adjust and sometimes it is more than one push to step into a different option under that feature. No worse or better than modern camera menus. I thought I was in for some daunting reading of the brochure to figure out where to begin but it's plainer than I anticipated to get up and running on the essentials.
The buttons and the knob are not backlit, only the display is visible in the dark. I still fumble by touching what I thought was a different button. This is where going to the smartphone app is valuable.
THE APP
The literature includes a mini brochure just for the app. It has QR codes to take your phone to the install online. What happened on my Android was the QR code took me to some "not Neewer" site that was asking for my credit card information. I forget exactly but I backed out of there and next landed on another site with the same nonsense. So I used the phone's Google Play to search for Neewer and got a direct hit to the proper app with no third party hassles and it installed smoothly. So far it has run smoothly too, and I am not a fan of apps for A/V equipment since 2016 but this one is actually worth using to fine tune every aspect of the lighting this CB100C can do.
The first startup of the app on the phone got me paired with the camera really with no intervention on my part. I was expecting to have to push something on the CB100C and then something on my phone but no, it was up and running. The adjustments are possible by sliding left and right on a value bar or tapping on the - and + to either side of that bar. A few modes, especially in FX, have many options so you might look to the bottom of your phone's screen to see if anything needs to be scrolled up into view.
The app will also turn on and off the light, as long as you leave the light plugged in to outlet power and its switch to ON. Basically it's in power down standby with the communication still listening.
Hardware features: The reflector bowl has an inside finish of "prismatic" texture that augments the apparent light power. I have another light that came with this and it does make a dramatic apparent increase over a bowl with a rippled, scoured, or dimpled finish. The Bowens receptacle of the light accepted every other Bowens mount accessory I have with no struggle. The release being a single large slider on the top of the light is a nice feature both in function and in appearance.
One photo shows the dispersion from the bowl when it reaches an umbrella placed with the peak distance 20" from the CB100C's LED element. The element is an array of small LEDs. The hole for an umbrella shaft is friction fit, no screw to tighten. I inserted my budget umbrella's shaft through the cut-out in the reflector bowl then into the receiver and it held firmly. Removal was as easy.
