The light panel market is a crowded space, so it can be hard to stand out. I like the zippered case this comes with, even if the foam cutouts are a little cheap compared to fitted, fabric wrapped padding. Inside there is a space for the light, the stand mounting arm, and the AC power supply. The main body is a moderately robust plastic, but I don't like that the stand adapter is a plastic piece that clips in. That piece is going to have to get clipped in and unclipped every time you unpack and then pack the light. This sort of connection feels like it needs to be more robust for long term use, even though it does click in securely when new. For those that are setting up in a more permanent studio space and don't have to deal with bringing the light on location, this may not be an issue since you can build it once and then leave it all attached.The light can be powered by two Sony-style NPF batteries (not included) or via AC power with the included power supply. The light is pretty simple to operate, with function buttons selecting one of the four on-screen quadrants and then a dial knob to scroll through the settings. Color temp is adjustable in 0100°K increments, which may be too course for some. I didn't really care for the button layout and interface compared to other RGB(WW) panels I've used for some reason. It didn't feel as instantly intuitive, as I prefer the dial knob to also offer clicking options rather than having to use the function buttons separately, though that's just a personal preference. It get nice and bright and dims down pretty well. In color mode, I noticed it didn't hold the exact color very well when dimming, with some color shift. This is a typical issue with many of the cheaper RGB LED panels.My panel shipped with firmware 1.1.0, but I downloaded the app and it was simple to upgrade to the latest 1.1.1 firmware. I'm guessing with them still at 1.1.x, they haven't invested a lot into software development, so I wouldn't expect frequent or very meaningful updates. The app functions okay, offering pages for each mode: CCT (color temperature - AKA white mode), HSI (Hue, Saturation, Intensity - AKA color mode), and Scene (which offers all the usual suspects, such as cop car, television, flickering light, fireworks, etc.). The interface was easy to use and seemed fairly intuitive.At the end of the day, this is a fairly solid budget option that isn't going to get confused with the higher end RGBWW panels out there. The less robust build quality means it may not survive on location, day to day filming and I'm especially concerned with the choice to go with a plastic light-stand adapter. This panel will likely get mostly relegated to home use, where I can just leave it built and not have to deal with the wear and tear of on-set work. At the price, it does offer a pretty compelling option for those with tight budgets and I was pleased with how bright it gets. It's a solid performer in this price bracket, though may not live up to the most demanding individuals that need the ability to dial in precise color settings as well as need the extra toughness of a metal-bodied light.
