This thing is bigger than I expected. I fit 7 sets of clothes (including socks and undergarments), a fully stocked toiletry bag, 2 hard cover books, a fleece poncho and my dressy cowboy boots. It fit all that with room for extra things that were more afterthought than necessity. Soft shell outer layer is somewhat solid however I wouldn't sit on it. Over all a good purchase for an upcoming trip. Give it a shot.
