MISSION:
The AMEDD Student Detachment (ASD) provides command and control through administrative support to Soldiers participating in advanced academic and training programs throughout the globe. Medical Officers and Enlisted Soldiers enhance their proficiency to serve, lead, and support the Army Medical Department by providing world class care to the Army’s medical beneficiaries.
“ACORNS, GROW TO GREATNESS!”
ASD converted their mascot from the Serpents to the Acorn in October of 2022. Acorns symbolize, growth, fresh starts and potential. The acorn is a small and unassuming seed that holds within it the potential for great growth and prosperity. From the tiny acorn, a mighty oak tree can grow, reaching up towards the sky and spreading its branches far and wide.
The Acorn represents our Soldiers who are small but dispersed across the globe. These medical professionals are supported by ASD’s combined efforts of their academic and training cohorts; Graduate Medical Education (GME), Professional Education and Training Department (PETD), Training with Industry (TWI), and AMEDD Enlisted Commissioning Program (AECP).
The Oak Tree (America’s National Tree) is the evolution of the Soldiers, once completing their program. Their growth of knowledge is significant and provides for those around them with a canopy of care by implementing their newly developed skill sets.
ASD Soldiers are sent back to the force and provide top tier medical care. The cycle is continued by sharing their experience and nurture others to become future Acorns.
