Translation Events: Inviting GTEs to Create and Manage Events

A few months ago, we introduced Translation Events, a new section of translate.wordpress.orgtranslate.wordpress.org The platform for contributing to the translation of WordPress core, themes and plugins. to easily manage translation events that happen at Contributor Days, translation meetups, and translation hackathons.

What is a Translation Event?

A translation event gets a dedicated page where the hosts provide a title and description of the event, as well as a start and end time. People can attend the event by clicking the “Attend” button, indicating that they want to help the effort.

During the event, their translation and reviewing activity will be counted towards the event, giving an overview of how much has already been translated.

After the event, the page shows how much was translated to how many languages and who the contributors were. This makes it easier for contributors to celebrate their achievements and build a sense of community with other translators.

We already had a few Contributor Days at WordCamps where we reached out to the table leads to see if they wanted to try this new tool, and they did! Thank you already to everyone who participated! We’ve

In the attendees and contributor lists, we also highlight new contributors using a 🎉 emoji. We’d like to invite event hosts to look out for them as they might need a little bit of help to get started.

Allowing More People to Create Events

We’d like to try and put the organization of small-scale translation events in the hands of users. Today we are empowering GTEs to create and manage translation events. Note also that people who are not GTEs can be event hosts, thus you can reach out for a GTEGeneral Translation Editor A General Translation Editor (often referred to as GTE) is a person, who has global access to validate strings on all projects for a specific locale. to create an event for you.

If you are a GTE, starting today you can create and manage your translation events at https://translate.wordpress.org/events/.

The plugin repo is open, so if you have some feedback or detect a bug, please, create a new issue.

PTE Request for INFast

I am the plugin author of INFast plugin ( https://wordpress.org/plugins/infast/ ). We have a number of great translation editors that we’d like to be able to approve translation for our plugin. Please add the following WordPress.org users as translation editors for their respective locales:

I hope the message “Cette extension n’est pas encore traduite en Français. Aidez à la traduire !” (This extension is not yet translated into French. Help us translate it!) disappears when translations will be done.
I thought having .moMO files MO, or Machine Object is a binary data file that contains object data referenced by a program. It is typically used to translate program code, and may be loaded or imported into the GNU gettext program. This is the format used in a WordPress install. These files are normally located inside .../wp-content/languages/ and .po filesPO files PO files are human readable files which contain translations we use. These files are not used by WordPress itself. Each language will have its own PO file, for example, for French there would be a fr_FR.po file, for german there would be a de_DE.po, for British English there might be en_GB.po. was enough.

Thanks in advance for your help.
