Who We Serve

SPTAC provides state-of-the science T/TA to states, tribal entities, territories, and communities to the following SAMHSA grant programs:

• Substance Abuse Prevention and Treatment Block Grant (SABG)
  Supports planning, implementation, and evaluation activities to prevent and treat substance misuse in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, the Northern Mariana Islands, Guam, American Samoa, and one tribal entity. SPTAC provides T/TA focused on the 20% prevention set-aside.
• Sober Truth on Preventing (STOP) Underage Drinking Act Grant Program
  Grantees apply the Strategic Prevention Framework model to prevent and reduce alcohol use among young people ages 12–20 and reduce the negative consequences of underage drinking.
• Strategic Prevention Framework—Partnerships for Success (SPF-PFS)
  Supports the development and delivery of state and community substance misuse prevention and mental health promotion services.
• Strategic Prevention Framework for Prescription Drugs (SPF Rx)
  Provides resources to help prevent and address prescription drug misuse within states and localities, and tracks reductions in opioid-related overdoses.
• Substance Abuse and HIV Prevention Navigator Program
  Provides services to racial/ethnic minority males at risk for HIV/AIDS, particularly men who have sex with other men (including transgender and LGBTQ+ persons) who are not in stable housing, and who live in communities with high rates of HIV.
• Prevent Prescription Drug/Opioid Overdose-Related Deaths (PDO)
  Trains first responders and members of key communities on the prevention of overdose-related deaths and the implementation of secondary prevention strategies, including the purchase and distribution of naloxone to first responders.
• First Responders—Comprehensive Addiction and Recovery Act (FR-CARA)
  Trains first responders and members of key communities at the state, tribal, and local government levels to administer an approved drug or device for emergency reversal of known or suspected opioid overdose. Grantees also establish processes for referral to appropriate treatment and recovery support services.
• Improving Access to Overdose Treatment (OD Treatment Access)
  Expands access to naloxone and other FDA-approved overdose reversal medications for emergency treatment of known or suspected opioid overdose and supports collaboration among grantees and prescribers.
