About SPTAC

Body

SPTAC is a SAMHSA national training and technical assistance (T/TA) center dedicated to advancing the application of culturally responsive, evidence-based substance misuse prevention programs, guided by SAMHSA’s Strategic Prevention Framework.

What We Do

Our T/TA is designed to help SAMHSA prevention grantees develop the knowledge and skills they need to plan, implement, evaluate, and sustain prevention programs and policies that are the right fit for their communities. While our focus is on prevention, we recognize that understanding the continuum of prevention, treatment, and recovery services is essential for planning comprehensive and coordinated efforts in every community. Using a data-informed and collaborative approach, our services meet grantees where they are, helping them to meet the requirements of their grants, strengthen their prevention systems, and begin to address the range of factors—individual, structural, and cultural—that contribute to behavioral health disparities.

Benefits of Working with SPTAC

SPTAC T/TA is designed to help grantees:

  • Better understand substance misuse and related behavioral health problems based on careful review of epidemiological data.
  • Prepare and mobilize prevention systems and resources to address the needs of resourced and under-resourced populations.
  • Develop strategic plans that link identified prevention needs to clear, measurable outcomes.
  • Select and implement evidence-based programs, practices, and policies, including strategies to reduce behavioral health disparities and inequities.
  • Enhance the evaluation capacity of innovative substance misuse prevention programs and practices.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of prevention strategies that have been implemented.
