Office of the Chief Medical Officer (OCMO)

The Office of the Chief Medical Officer provides assistance to the Assistant Secretary in evaluating and organizing programs within the Agency, and to promote evidence-based and promising best practices emphasizing clinical focus.

The OCMO:

  • Provides in-depth experience providing mental health care or substance use disorder treatment services.
  • Coordinates with the Assistant Secretary for Planning and Evaluation (ASPE) to assess the use of performance metrics to evaluate SAMHSA programs.
  • Coordinate with the Assistant Secretary to ensure consistent utilization of appropriate performance metrics and evaluation designs.
