About us
A lot of companies say they’re “mission-driven.” Our unique corporate structure guarantees that every decision we make upholds our mission: to ensure the internet remains open and accessible. Beholden to neither shareholders nor investors, Mozilla Corporation is wholly owned by the not-for-profit Mozilla Foundation. Along with our communities of 20,000+ contributors and collaborators, Mozilla Corporation’s staff designs, builds, and distributes software that allows people to enjoy the internet on their own terms. Our flagship product — the Firefox browser — has expanded into a family of products that protects users and alerts them of risks, safeguards passwords and provides a secure VPN (with more to come). By maintaining a safe, open internet we're helping humanity, while also helping the individual humans employed here to reach their personal and professional goals. With a relatively small team serving hundreds of millions of people, a culture of exploration, and a commitment to mentorship, opportunities abound to learn and grow at Mozilla.

Today’s #AI ecosystem is structurally flawed in ways that prevent us from realizing its full potential, while also allowing AI harms to go unchecked. In “Accelerating Progress Toward Trustworthy AI,” we highlight the progress we’ve made towards advancing openness and transparency in #AI, and the important work that still needs to be done. Read the full report including our key takeaways and recommendations for future work, here⤵️ https://lnkd.in/g_n7cNpD

Privacy and #AI are inextricably linked. New technologies are coming to market at an unprecedented rate, with little regard for users’ privacy. To have trustworthy AI, we must think about data privacy, which is why we’re proud to announce the launch of #PrivacyforAll; a campaign to raise data privacy standards and lay the groundwork for successful AI regulation. The use of romantic #AI chatbots is on the rise, and for a segment of tech that success (and profit) relies on collecting an absurd amount of data, most companies are doing a pretty poor job at protecting it. For the first time ever our #PrivacyNotIncluded team has reviewed 11 of the most popular #AI romantic partners and the results are grim. Dig into the full report here⤵️ https://mzl.la/42EMHdn

The relationship between creators and #AI can be a complicated one. Join #DataFuturesLab on 20 February as we hear from Cullen Miller, VP of Policy at Spawning, about how they're building tools that enable creators to see if their work is being used to train algorithmic datasets. Social media "algorithms" and their effects are a hot topic. But in order for these systems to get better, we have to have plausible alternatives. That's why we are launching the Prosocial Ranking Challenge, an open competition for people to submit content selection and ranking algorithms. We are looking for algorithms that can change long term outcomes in three areas: conflict, well-being, and information. Our judges will select the winners, who will split a $60,000 prize pool. But more importantly, we will pay to test each algorithm using a custom-browser extension that alters the content users see on three different platforms, and recruit thousands of participants to use it for four months.

I joined Mozilla Corporation as a board member 3 years ago, thrilled for the opportunity to be a part of a team making a big difference. Mozilla has a powerful legacy of shaping the internet for the better, and is uniquely positioned to continue to do so. And that really matters ... this role is more important today than it has ever been. Over that time, I have been impressed and inspired by the passion of the team, and their dedication to the mission. Today, I am looking forward to coming in as CEO, as we continue to work hard to build a better Internet ... an internet that is not dominated by negativity and divisiveness, but that celebrates, embodies and supports our deepest hopes for human progress. A huge thank you to Mitchell Baker for the leadership she has provided, for her support in bringing me onboard, and (in advance) for her ongoing partnership as we work together on Mozilla’s future and creating a healthier digital world for us all. #mozilla #healthyInternet #opensourcecommunity #leadership
