"This company rebuilt a badly deteriorated cement-block retaining wall which supports my elevated driveway, repaired numerous concrete sidewalk cracks and a crumbling step, replaced an ugly, old, insecure chain-link gate with a beautiful steel door, and installed attractive brick borders around a couple of small garden spaces (after also cleaning up those weedy spaces). The price was more than fair; I'm very pleased with the work, timeliness and charming personality. I wouldn't hesitate to hire them again."

"Jorge was my first POC. He was respectful, friendly, and patient as he coordinated the pre visit requirements. We did a virtual estimate. Isabel was my Project Manager who arranged for dig permits and everything else. We set a date and the team arrived on time and had the fence installed in about 3 hours. It was a partial installation and looks beautiful!"

    Concrete & Masonry

"This past spring, I bought a 45-year old house that needed serious updating --- paint, flooring, plumbing, electrical, kitchen and appliances as well as garage & driveway. In addition, the landscaping in the back, the deck and the front porch and walkway all needed updating/replacement. For this outside work, I looked through local ads as well as the ratings in the Best of Annapolis magazine and chose Green Future as one of the contractors to bid on my project. The estimating team at Green Future contacted me immediately, set up an appointment to see the house and we met that same week. This was in sharp contrast to the other contractors that I had to track down and repeatedly pester to get them to come out to look at my job. I also found that few other contractors would take on the whole of my project. That, in itself, narrowed the field for me --- I wanted a one-stop solution for my outside work. After I received my detailed quote and drawing from Green Futures (other contractors didnâ t submit drawing) I reviewed with my estimator, and finalized the details and pricing. No other contractor provided as much detail or accessibility in the bid process as Green Future. I signed them up and we set a start date for the work. I could not be happier with the job they did for me in all phases of the project --- decking, masonry work and landscaping (hardscape, drainage work, as well as plantings/mulch). These are the reasons that I would recommend Green Future to anyone, and why they will handle all my landscaping needs going forward: 1) The job was performed exactly in conformance with the agreed spec. 2) The workmanship was first rate and the project ended up looking even better than I had imagined. Thomas Bailey, my management contact at Green Future, and his teams were perfectionists. They were not happy until I was happy. 3) The workers were NEAT -- the work areas were cleaned and straightened each evening before they left. 4) All elements of the permitting and inspection process were handled (and chased down with a slow County permitting office) by Green Future. 5) The communication with Green Future throughout the project was excellent. Again, Thomas Bailey went above and beyond on this score. He communicated with me nearly every day, checking my satisfaction with what had been done and letting me know what was to take place next and when. Of all the contractor personnel I have dealt with at my house over the past 6 months (and there have been many), Thomas was by far the most communicative --- and he did exactly what he said heâ d do WHEN he said heâ d do it. I can tell you that that level of customer attention is a rare commodity today in dealing with contractors. 6) Thomas also did a final walkthrough of the complete job with me, pointed out things I should be aware of about the ongoing maintenance of my landscaping and let me know that he would respond personally if I found any issues with anything on my job. I believe him --- but so far, everything looks perfect to me. Could I have gotten the work done more cheaply? Yes --- maybe 10-15%. However, I am confident that it would not have been done as well, as â hassle-freeâ or with the level of service and communication throughout that I experienced with Green Future. I also would have been dealing with at least two and maybe three separate contractors to get everything done for less. I made the right decision --- Green Future was a great value overall --- and the results are beautiful. I have already received many compliments from my neighbors on the work. This company, and Thomas Bailey especially, get my highest praise and recommendation --- they get five stars on all elements of our interaction. One would be hard pressed to find a better full-service landscaper than Green Future."

Frequently asked questions

  • Budget: Your budget is central in influencing which fence you buy. Figure out your spending limit and determine your budget per linear foot, as fencing costs can quickly add up.
  • Durability: Consider strength, lifespan, resistance to pests, rot and fungus, rust, and the material’s ability to withstand local weather conditions.
  • Maintenance: Maintenance, cleaning and repairs should be simple and minimal.
  • Purpose: The style of fence you choose should be suitable for its intended purpose.
  • Installation: Find out what installation requirements, such as foundations or supports, are necessary. Research if DIY is possible or if professional installation is your only option.

  • Wood fence styles range from traditional to contemporary and from purely functional to attractive and decorative.
  • Lattice fences are affordable and decorative. You can use them as privacy fences by growing dense foliage over them.
  • Vertical board fences are the most common type of residential fence. There are budget-friendly options available as well as higher-end panels. Vertical board fences are affordable choices for basic privacy and security fences.
  • Picket fences conjure up cozy images of traditional properties with carefully tended lawns. They’re good for demarcating a property boundary but don’t provide much security.
  • Post-and-rail fences are a solid choice for making a boundary over a large area, as material use is minimal. However, they don’t provide any security or privacy.
  • Metal fences are generally stronger and more secure than other materials. You can choose from highly ornate and secure metalwork or simple but functional wire. For the higher-end options, which are often costly, homeowners often reduce costs per square foot by combining the metal with brick.
  • Aluminum fencing is an attractive, more affordable alternative to wrought iron. Although it has a similar appearance, it’s not as strong as wrought iron.
  • Steel fencing is a strong, long-lasting fencing option that’s good for creating a secure barrier around your home.
  • Vinyl fencing made from PVC comes in a range of styles, including those that mimic real wood.
  • Composite fencing is an amalgamation of wood fibers, pulp or sawdust and ground plastic particles that are bonded and held together by an acrylic resin. It looks and feels like real wood and is an environmentally friendly choice, as it usually contains a high percentage of recycled materials.
  • Wire fences are not made to enhance the aesthetics of your property, although some homeowners opt for black fencing to help boost aesthetics. They are inexpensive, purely functional products suitable for DIY or professional installation.
  • Barbed wire fencing isn’t common in residential settings. While it’s an inexpensive, fierce and intimidating security deterrent, it isn’t attractive and will not add value to your home.
