Around the Division

Task Force Virgin Islands Puerto Rico (TF-VIPR) successfully hosted the Second Quarter U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) South Atlantic Division (SAD) Regional Governance Meeting (RGM) in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The meeting reunited commanders and civilian leaders from SAD to discuss workforce topics and the newly created TF-VIPR. Leaders also had the opportunity to visit some of the main projects on the island.
Richard Thomas has earned the Black Engineer of the Year Award at the 2024 BEYA conference. He has this advice to engineers facing challenges in their careers, "If you’re comfortable, you’re not growing. Embrace being uncomfortable."
Erik Blechinger, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Savannah District, Deputy District Engineer for Planning, Programs and Project Management, received the 2023 Lt. Gen. John W. Morris Civilian of the Year Award during the USACE National Awards Ceremony in Washington D.C., Nov. 29, 2023.
Direct hire authority has been approved for positions in Florida and Puerto Rico. Positions include: power plant technicians, mechanics, deckhands, heavy equipment operators, scientists, engineers, park rangers, acountants, contract specialists and office administrative professionals.
During the ceremony, as a tradition, Brigadier General Daniel H. Hibner, Commander, USACE South Atlantic Division, passed the covered USACE colors to Colonel Charles L. Decker, Commander TF VIPR, which represents the assumption of command, and Col. Decker passed the colors to Jacqueline J. Keiser, PG, PMP, Deputy District Engineer for Programs and Project Management (Interim), TF VIPR, USACE.
Congresswoman Jennifer Gonzalez, Commissioner Resident for Puerto Rico, introduces Brig. Gen. Daniel Hibner and the leadership that is coordinating the creation and establishment of Task Force U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico during a press conference that was held in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
South Atlantic Division commander Brig. Gen. Daniel Hibner signed a Commander's Memo on Feb. 27th, 2023 establishing the division as an Engineering With Nature Proving Ground.
