David was fantastic to work with. The underlying structure to our cement front steps was degrading due to water getting into the wooden support structure. David got under the stairs and installed a sister board on a joist that was starting to go. He then blew out my crummy cement patching on the top of the steps that looked terrible and very nicely repaired the cracks. My stairs are now rock solid and ready for the winter. Separately, David also repaired some water damaged base boards and dry wall. He also replaced a cracked window (which was awesome because finding someone who could do that job seemed impossible). Finally, he cut out and made a door in the stairway wall to our basement so I could more easily access a crawl space. Overall, David was great to work with. He's a easy going guy and clearly takes great pride in his work. I have hired other guys in the past to do some projects and was not impressed their desire to do a top quality job. John was refereed to me by a friend who is an architect. He started the job early and finished ahead of schedule. The first project was the retro fitting (a structural upgrade) of the entire structure. This involved jacking up the house and reinforcing framing that was not done to plan by the original builders. I have worked as a project manager for a construction company and I must say I was surprised at how efficient John was. The structure of the house is quite complicated but Johns knowledge of framing helped immensely in figuring out where the problem areas were. After the retro fit john began the remodel of the interior. He moved some interior walls and doors and then began the finish work. He trimmed the entire two rooms in custom milled red oak. The next project was the sunroom. John converted my roof deck into an enclosed sunroom and expanded the exterior space by enclosing the flat roof with a safety railing. He had a subcontractor install a walkable roofing material. The end result is amazing. I would give John my highest recommendation. He is kind, honest, and intelligent. I have hired many contractors in the past that have disappointed me. I consider myself lucky to have found John. You really need to see my floors, they're amazing! Honestly, I don't even know where to begin to describe my fantastic experience with Gene and the Concept Materials team. From quote to finished product, Gene made the process easy and pleasant. I really felt like he took care of me and gave me great value for my money. I wanted the old floors ripped out of my 1600 sq ft loft and replaced with engineered acacia. I got quotes from several places, but there was really no competition. Gene gave me a combination of great price and impeccable customer service, including custom stairs and treads- we're talking hand sanded and varnished solid planks of acacia - that no one else would have even considered. Communication was constant with all questions and phone calls answered immediately. Scheduling was never a problem because Gene would go out of his way to work with my schedule and needs, including coming by on weekends or even dropping by my office during the day. Gene explained everything in detail and provided all of the different options so I would be able to make an educated decision. When I asked for several custom things that other flooring places has refused to do, Gene said yes and the end result is fantastic! It was a level of customer service you would expect from only the highest of the high end and it was thoroughly refreshing to receive it! My floors are beautiful and I am beyond happy with them. Sammy was on time on the day of the estimate. He clearly described the process, including the information that it would be a 2 day process. One day would be demolition and power wash. The 2nd day would be the sanding and preservative application. He was clear that it would not be consecutive days. He and his 2 man crew showed up promptly as schedule for the demolition. They completed the task in timely manner, even power washing 4 benches in my yard...that were not part of the original quote. Sammy noted some termite damage in some of the gazebo as it was being cut down. He took some precautionary actions to stop any further damage on the remaining deck. And took time to insure, as best he could, that the salvaged wood from the gazebo was termite free. Due to rainy weather it took 2 reschedules to get 2nd step..sanding and applying perservative..done. But Sammy called each time giving me more than sufficient information and forewarning about the rescheduled plans. Deck looks greatshow more

PROS: Dan has been in construction for a long time. He is very knowledgeable and likes to share his insight. Dan is very approachable and responds quickly when in contract. Dan has a good attitude and wants to please his clients. Dan does a good job of directing others when he has a crew. Dan informs the homeowner of any issues and is fast to respond to solution –especially if they are surprises. Dan’s work does pass code and he has a good rapport with the inspectors. Dan is also up for a challenge. His shining moment with us was that he was able to hoist a 10 ft sliding glass door to the roof of our house (3 stories tall) and then dropped it down the back on the deck. He also did good work on several structural beams that had been eaten up by termites. CONS: Dan has a poor relationship with time. He is not very organized in terms of scheduling and is not very orderly in terms of keeping his area and your house clean. Dan is personally not good with “finish work” or plumbing. We ended Dan’s contract after noticing one rather big item on a Friday afternoon near the end of our project (item #3 below). That weekend we assessed everything and were amazed by how many things that were done poorly in the previous 2 weeks—we were in the “finishing” phase. . Our issues compounded the moment that we started to give him more deadlines and allowed him to do “finish” and plumbing. Instead of being honest about what he could do and how quickly, he rushed and did work that was sub-par. For instance, we would give him one week to do something and he would do it the night before the inspection. There are several noteworthy items to point out as to why we would not use him again—all of these items resulted in paying someone else to repair what he had done. 1) He allowed the dry-wall crew to go over bumpy walls (nails still protruding from the studs which warped the finish of the drywall). Since the extent of the warping was not fully noticeable until after skim coating and painting, we did a lot of work twice. 2) His plumbing was not accurate to the dimensions of the sink and the centering with the wall. I blame this happening due to the fact that Dan was plumbing at 8pm at night without much light. He did pass inspection but the sink that I had purchased weeks in advance did not align with the plumbing AT ALL. Since the dry wall was already up, skim coated and painted, we had to completely redo this piece as well. He also failed to reinforce where the pedestal sink would attach. He had told that he would absolutely do this. Not… 3) Dan penetrated the French slider door jam (door was $7K) with a 4 inch screw when attempting to make trim for it. Essentially, this means that Dan cannot screw straight (when it is needed most) and damaged a part of the door that is visible and very much functionality. It takes a lot of faith to purchase a $7K door and I cannot believe that he was so careless on such an important, expensive item. ABOUT US: My husband and I are both technical workers with vast amounts of Project Management. I am a perfectionist and very much involved in all design decisions. I constantly ask questions and provide dimensions and input. I am not always right in my views but every other contractor has applauded my involvement since it leads to things being done correctly and to my standards. Unfortunately, we let our guard down (relied on Dan) when our jobs were becoming rather intense. At that moment in time, quality control needed to be at its best ( with the finish work and plumbing). Excellent work performed by Julio. He put new roofs on 3 of our structures as well as extensive remodeling and rebuilding with one of them. Julio is thorough, detail oriented, efficient and diligent, his work is high quality. We are thrilled with the result and will definitely use him again. We highly recommend Julio. I liked Eric a lot and he did very good work for me on a previous occasion. For this job he came out and spent a lot of time evaluating and measuring the site and was going to get back to me with an estimate. Then he disappeared with no explanation and stopped returning phone calls. I'm really disappointed that he wouldn't at least take the time to say he didn't want the job, as I wasted a lot of time waiting for him when I should have been looking for other people. The wind sheild on my deck was quite old and no longer structurally sound. It was in part attached to the outside of the house which is three stories above the ground and in an area that gets a considerable amount of wind in the afternoons and during storms. The old wind sheild has always creaked in a strong wind and the clear plastic panels(windows) would make a variety of noises. Mr. Mulhall and his crew arrived at 8 and worked all day, until early evening, building and installing the new wind screen. The screen is in an odd space where part of the roof starts to slope up so it had to be built to fit the space. It looks great, is very strudy and no longer makes any noise even when the wind comes up. They also repaired the upper portion of railing around the deck, which had begun to pull apart and replaced and stained various pieces. I am very pleased with the quality of the work, as well as the speed in which it was accomplished. I should note that Mr. Mulhall and his people were all quite carefull when they brought equipment and materials in through the house, which was necessary and in moving things off the deck so they could work. They laid down a heavy paper so as not to cause a mess in the house and by the time they left the area in which they worked was very cleanshow more

It went very well. Dan Morgan was patient as we figured out what we wanted to have done. He worked with us to come up with a plan that met our budget and our needs. Dan and his crew were always punctual. The work was done over several weeks to accommodate our schedule. In other words, the work could have been completed in two weeks, but he accommodated us by doing parts of the work at different times over a 5 week period. This was very helpful to us. He kept in constant communication with us. All of the work was of high quality. We are extremely satisfied with his work. We would hire him againshow more

They were very expensive. I called them based on the reviews I read online. The person who came out was kind of spacey. He knew what he was talking about, but he seemed a little scattered. They also took a long time to get the quote to me. It was a high quote. They took such a long time that I had already started on the work. They said they were going to take two weeks and they took two months. I did get other quotes. They were definitely in the high-end, but they weren?t the highest. They only made a bid to do some of the work. They didn?t make a bid for all other work that I wanted to have done. I would probably not use their services againshow more
