I am very happy with the work that was done by Cal Preserving. Bruce Watkins delivered on everything that was promised on his website and did it in a professional and timely manner. He has a large crew so the work was completed quickly and the results are excellent. My 515 sq ft ,12 yr old redwood deck was repaired, power washed, bleached and preserved in 4 days and it looks like new again. I initially called Bruce after a lot of research and other estimates and chose him because of the testimonials and the services he offered. The crew was willing to move and replace the furniture and plants on the deck. The deck had areas that needed repair including replacement of boards and setting of nails and screws. The sanding was a critical component of the excellent result and worth the price. Bruce asked for no money until the job was completed and I was satisfied with the results. I will be using this company in the future and highly recommend them to others. Cal Preserving delivers EXCEPTIONAL results. We had an immediate response to my request for a quote. Onsite visit 2 days later, quote that afternoon. Able to start after rain let up in Fremont - 5 days later. Absolute professional prep, treatment, and care by Francisco and Gabriel. Pressure washed our 14-yr old deck the first day - AND the pergola overhead - AND the fiberglass roofing. They ALSO cleaned the adjacent pool of cleaning debris - without being asked! Next day sanded the deck, let dry, returned to apply preservative - which brought out the original beauty of the redwood. Spectacular results. Throughout they protected downspouts, electrical connections, cleaned dirty water sitting in the base of sliding glass doors - and somehow made a squeaky deck silent. (I've walked across it 4 times tonight and there wasn't a single squeak.) Gorgeous result. I was referred to all Pro Decks by my contractor (Kevin Moylan, General Contractors). We have some family staying for the summer and wanted to clean up our landscaping in the backyard. We weren't financially prepared to rip out the existing deck and rebuild, so we decided to re-finish instead. According to Kevin, it was structurally sound enough to get away with just that. I am so glad we went that route. I met with Al at All Pro Decks for the initial consultation. He was patient and took his time with us. We didn't feel pressured into anything and he let us know how long would could expect the project to finish. For a fraction of the cost, we were able to completely revive our deck (and look of the entire backyard!) in just four days. Wooden front deck, steps and railings were power-washed and stained with a solid wood stain. Scott Smith and his assistant Don did a good job of refinishing the deck. I was even more pleased with the side and large back decks which were very old Trex that Scott stained with a solid wood stain to look like new wood. His work saved thousands of dollars over replacing the faded old Trex material. The only caveat that I have is to have Deck Medic stick to deck refinishing, not take on other jobs such as doors, and it's worthwhile to check their measurements to make sure that they are accurate. Also, the work took several days longer than was originally estimated, partly because of working half days. Overall, I was very pleased with their work and their pricing, which was almost half of some other contractors, and would highly recommend their work! I've worked with many contractors over the years and JJB is the best I've worked with for residential remodeling. That's no small statement. JJB is responsive, communicative, on-time and on-schedule, does not cut corners, always willing to tackle new issues or problems that arise during construction, respectful of neighbors / other tenants, and very fairly priced for the quality of work that they provide. We even had some city permitting issues from prior construction that JJB was able to take on and get cleared up. I can't express how much headache this saved me! On top of being great contractors, Joe and Jeff and their team are also just great people - very personable, easy to communicate with, and a pleasure to be around. They really desire to make their customers happy and to do good work. You won't find any cheap shortcuts or shoddy work with this team. When the time comes for another construction job in the area, they will be my first call. I really can't give much of a higher recommendation than thatshow more

The job was bid in Nov, but work could not be scheduled by the contractor until January. When it finally did start, there were several delays due to workers being sick or unavailable. Ultimately things were not completed until late Feb; three months after a quote was provided. Weather was a factor in one or two cases, but I think you can do the math: this took a long time. The price was competitive, which we were happy about. The restructuring of the deck went well; also good to see. We found a can of wood stain from the previous home owner that we thought would be a suitable re-finisher for the deck, but without any special prep work by the contractor that ended up looking awful - the old shards of paint were clearly visible. We took responsibility for our part in making that happen, but some professional advice would have prevented the problem in the first place. Plus they left nails sticking up, and were ready to call the job done. We ended up paying for materials and incremental labor to re-finish the deck. When it was finally done, the crew did not replace items that they had removed until I pushed them them to do so. That is part of professional work, I found the whole thing to be ridiculous. Overall the job took far more time and effort than it should have, and I ended up paying more than was agreed to in the contract. Timely completion of work and good advice are 2 important qualities of a good contractor, and neither was apparent hereshow more

.I had about 900 sq. ft. of redwood deck and 200 ft. of handrails that badly needed cleaning and refinishing. I found Summit Deck Doctor on Angie's List, and checked out their website. They had prices clearly stated there so I could calculate the approximate cost (actually, there was one error on the price list which threw my calculation off, but it has since been corrected). The owner, Rupert, came to make a quotation. He measured and inspected my decks, and made several useful recommendations. I decided to have the decks done, but only the handrail top caps, to save money. The vertical slats and posts of the handrail don't take as much abuse from the sun as horizontal surfaces, so I thought I could pressure wash and stain them myself. They arrived on schedule and went right to work. Their pressure washer is industrial strength and did the job well and quickly. They also washed the underside of my decks and applied fungicide all over. Because parts of my decks are 12 ft. above ground, they couldn't do a thorough job washing that part, but made their best effort. Rupert explained all that before I signed the contract. Sporadic rainfall caused one or two days delay in applying the stain, but Rupert called every day to check with me, and they came to do the staining as soon as conditions permitted. The job was completed on time, and looks really good. The wood had gotten grey and weathered, and now looks like redwood again. One plank was replaced with new redwood, so I can compare the refinished wood with the new. It's not exactly the same, but close. Overall, I am very pleased with the results. One piece of advice: staining the verticals on the handrails was VERY tedious. Doing the top caps is the easy part, because they are flat and easy to reach. The caps are probably less than 10% of the total handrail effort. So if you can afford it, have Rupert do the entire handrail. But if you want to save money and can handle a paintbrush, negotiate a price for the pressure wash and fungicide application of the handrails, and stain them yourself. He doesn't have a price listed for that, but I'm sure he will try to accommodate you. Rupert and his crew (Michael) are friendly, conscientious and easy to work with. And there's no BS sales pitch. Great to work with. Responded quickly to my initial inquiry and kept me well-informed during the process. It rained the day after they had washed / bleached so they were unable to apply the strain, so they re-bleached and came back the next day at no extra expense. They did everything they said they would do and the deck looks great. Will definitely be calling them againshow more

Bruce was extremely accommodating with his time frame. He worked around my schedule. They showed up on time each day(a 3 day project); did an outstanding job, and cleaned up each time. They did a very thorough job, including power-washed and sealed the under-side of the deck to preserve it. It looks like a brand new deck. Al, the owner, gave me a free estimate. He was very friendly and explained the condition of the deck and what he could do to improve its appearance and also what he could not do. The price seemed reasonable so I gave him a down payment and scheduled the work. On the appointed day, the employee who was to do the deck refinishing arrived later than anticipated but performed the work competently over two days. After he left on a Friday afternoon, I discovered that parts of my irrigation system no longer worked. I emailed the company explaining the problem that night. The next morning I had an email saying that someone would come that day or Sunday to fix the problem. And, indeed, Al himself arrived on Saturday afternoon and fixed it. Frankly, I was stunned to find a company or person providing services immediately assuming responsibility, not to mention coming on a weekend to fix the problem, and with good humor. I was enormously impressed with this reaction which has become increasingly rare. Later I found a hole where a piece of wood belonged and that was fixed in short order as well. Obviously it would have been better if nothing had gone wrong, but because of the approach of the owner I really didn't mind. Thus the overall "A" grade. The only suggestion I have is that customers should be told how long the work will take. The contract approval I signed indicated completion in one day so I was surprised when I discovered that the work would continue on a second dayshow more

It was wonderful every step of the way. Mike is incredibly professional and responsive, talks the project through, and provides very accurate and reasonable estimates that he works within. He makes every effort to communicate and solicit feedback as the work is being done. Mike usually does only one project at a time so he is able to devote all of his time and energy to the tasks at hand. We have been very happy with all of his work and are sorry now that we have run out of projects for the time being - we would definitely hire Mike again and hope to do so in the futureshow more
