Each year, Americans observe National Hispanic Heritage Month from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15, by commemorating, and honoring the many contributions Hispanic Americans have made to the U.S. Army, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Department of Defense and the nation. The contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Portugal, Mexico, the Caribbean, Central America, and South America.
U.S. Army Corps of Engineers continue to support Hurricane Idalia. The federal disaster relief mission is expected to operate in a challenging environment with the eminent arrival of Hurricane Idalia. U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District deployed staff to the State of Florida Emergency Operations Center (EOC), the South Florida Water Management District EOC, and pre-positioned staff in several key locations to be prepared to begin recovery operations as soon as it is safe. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the South Water Management District celebrated the completion of the Biscayne Bay Coastal Wetlands Project S-709 Pump Station project with a ribbon cutting ceremony Aug. 22, 2023 in the Biscayne National Park in Homestead, Fla. The project is to rehydrate coastal wetlands and reduce damaging point-source freshwater discharge to Biscayne Bay and Biscayne National Park.

Decker is the 1st commander of the highly anticipated Task Force.
Brig. Gen. Daniel Hibner, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, South Atlantic Division Commander, and Eng. Josué Colón, Executive Director of the Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority, sign a Memorandum of Agreement to implement the permanent repairs of the Guajataca Dam in Isabela. This MOA sets the path for the final phase of the permanent repairs of this dam. This project will reduce the risk to approximately 1,000 people that live directly downstream of the dam and will reduce the risk of cutting off the water supply to over 250,000 people. Governor Pedro Pierluisi, government officials, PREPA representatives and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers personnel participated in the signing ceremony.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville District celebrated Corps Day on Friday, June 23, at the Jacksonville Fairgrounds. The annual event celebrates employees’ accomplishments and achievements over the past year and hosted hundreds of families, friends, and special guests. This year’s theme was “Game Day,” and the crowd was adorned with sports apparel from their favorite teams.
