The COVID-19 pandemic is reaching heights that South Carolina has only experienced once before, in January, which is the apex, to date. Our epi curve shows that we’re currently experiencing the second-highest rate of new daily cases, and the curve is sharply trending upward.

44 of our 46 counties are at high disease activity levels based on two-week incidence rates. And according to CDC, our entire state is currently experiencing a high level of transmission of COVID. In a matter of three weeks, COVID-19 hospitalizations statewide have tripled.

Most sobering and tragic of all: as of today, our state has lost more than 10,000 lives to this deadly disease. 10,007 South Carolinians who were loved by family and friends are gone.

A majority of these deaths could have been prevented had all of the infection prevention tools at our disposal been consistently adopted.
