Happy Fourth of July!
On June 19, 1865, two years after the Emancipation Proclamation, enslaved people in Texas received word that they were free. We celebrate Juneteenth and acknowledge the ongoing fight for equality still necessary today. #Juneteenth
Today, in honor of #Pride Month, we celebrate Shannon Minter, a 1993 graduate of #CornellLaw School, who is a leading civil rights attorney and the legal director of the National Center for Lesbian Rights.

In 2008, Minter received Cornell Law’s Exemplary Public Service Award for his work, which includes serving as lead counsel in dozens of groundbreaking legal victories for the LGBT community, including a landmark California marriage equality case. 🌈

In 2021 Shannon was featured as an Icon for LGBT history month. Read more here: https://bit.ly/3CoLTNj
🌈 Today we celebrate #CornellLaw School alumna Sharice Davids ’10. 🌈

Davids made history when she became one of the first two Native American women elected to Congress and the first openly gay representative from Kansas.
She received the Steven W. Siegel ’68 Award from CUGALA: Cornell’s LGBTQ+ Alumni Association and continues to work tirelessly for LGBTQ+ rights. Yesterday (June 8) Sharice reintroduced legislation to improve mental health supports for at-risk LGBTQI+ youth nationwide. #Pride
