Eid al-Adha
Eid al-Adha (Id ul-Adha) is an Islamic festival falling on the 10th day of the month of Dhul Hijja (Thou al-Hijja) to commemorate the willingness of Ibrahim (Abraham) to sacrifice his son.
Many Orthodox Christians annually celebrate Christmas Day on or near January 7 to remember Jesus Christ’s birth, described in the Christian Bible. This date works to the Julian calendar that pre-dates the Gregorian calendar, which is commonly observed.
Is Ethiopian Christmas Day a Public Holiday?
Ethiopian Christmas Day is a public holiday. It is a day off for the general population, and schools and most businesses are closed.
In 2023, it falls on a Saturday, and some businesses may choose to follow Saturday opening hours.
Some Orthodox Christians visit a church to pray or reflect on inner thoughts in the lead up to the Orthodox Christmas Day.
