The Pittsburgh District Mission
U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Pittsburgh District
June 13, 2023 | 7:12
The mission of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Pittsburgh District is so broad that it's impossible to summarize it in one sentence.
The district offers services in engineering, construction, design, navigation, water management, regulatory, real estate, environmental, recreation and much more. The Pittsburgh District serves the region by helping solve water resource problems of all sizes, from local municipal flood mitigation to river navigation.
This video highlights just some of the core competencies of the Pittsburgh District mission, to include engineering, navigation, flood-risk reduction, recreation, emergency response, regulatory, environmental, maintenance, and more!

Meadville Mayor Jaime Kinder gives a speech during Woodcock Creek Lake’s golden jubilee celebration in Saegertown, Pennsylvania, July 14, 2023. Community leaders and Corps of Engineers employees gathered on a summer morning to celebrate Woodcock Creek Dam’s 50th anniversary. The corps built Woodcock Creek Dam to reduce floods along the French Creek, saving communities such as Saegertown and Meadville from catastrophic flooding year after year and has prevented more than $38 million in flood damages since its construction in 1973.
