Our commitment to small businesses: The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers remains committed to conducting business with qualified small businesses. The Wilmington District provides military construction (MILCON), operations & maintenance (O&M) construction and services to the Special Operations Command at Fort Bragg.  The District also executes dredging for the Military Ocean Terminal at Sunny Point (MOTSU), one of the largest military terminals in the world which serves as a transfer point between rail, trucks and ships for the import and export of weapons, ammunition and other military equipment for the U.S. Army.  Work at both Fort Bragg and MOTSU have proven to be promising opportunities for small businesses over the years.

The Wilmington District executes the planning, design, construction and operation and maintenance of various water resources throughout the entire state of North Carolina and select regions in Virginia.  This includes Coastal Storm Risk Management (CSRM), operation and maintenance dredging of seven shallow draft inlets, two deep draft ports and the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway (AIWW).  The District also oversees five multi-purpose lake projects that include flood risk management, hydropower, water supply and recreation.  Historically, small businesses have been successful at achieving contract awards for grounds and preventative maintenance at the lake locations as well as with some dredging requirements. 

The District’s regulatory program includes issuing permits while balancing commercial and residential development with the protection of the aquatic and overall environment.

Ultimately, small business opportunities exist in all the District’s mission areas.
