"Luis did an excellent job repairing a heaved fence post. He communicated very well and was able to provide a quote from pictures of the issue. After arriving on time, he had to remove the old rotten post. He carefully worked around the sprinkler system and put the new post in. The gate works like new. I am very impressed with the quality of the repair!"

"Clay at HGL Construction was an absolute pleasure to work with from start to finish. We had him build a giant ( 14Ć¢ x 8Ć¢ ) entertainment center for our living room, and he knocked it out of the park! His communication is top notch and the final product came in exactly as weĆ¢ d hoped! Clay mentioned this was his favorite type of project to take on, and it showed from the moment we first made contact. He asked a lot of good questions at the start to get a feel for what we were looking for. Once we were on the same page and agreed to a price, he started with the design right away - he stayed up nearly all night that first night because he was so excited! He had an initial design within a day, and after a couple messages back and forth we had a final design. He sent progress pictures and checked in with regularity, and he made sure to ask our preferences through the build process. Once it was complete, the installation process went just as smoothly as the rest. He even did some touch-up paint at the end and gave us the leftover paint and a brush in case we needed it! If youĆ¢ ve read this far, youĆ¢ re ready for the punchline: Clay at HGL is the single most professional contractor weĆ¢ ve ever worked with. His prices are fair, he does great work, and heĆ¢ s full of good vibes! We will certainly be using him again in the future, and we will refer our friends and family to him without a second thought! Thanks again Clay! - Chris and Whitney"

"Mike can do everything (and he certainly did for us)! However, he specializes in kitchen and bathroom remodeling. Among other things, he repaired and re-stained flooring that was water-damaged. He helped us clean up from extensive damage that Treemageddon did to our yard and reclaimed Alan's grill for us. These are just a few of the things he did, and everything he did with an eye to detail, and making sure to go that extra mile for us! We can't recommend Mike Casey and Casey Resources enough!"

"Wes and I worked through the job for a couple of months. I had several pieces that I wanted built including a TV console, matching coffee table and floating shelves. With very little knowledge of furniture quality and even interior design myself, Wes helped me pick out a very high quality, stylish, modern design to duplicate while he educated me throughout the process. I truly liked the very quality work he completed but even more I appreciate how he kept me updated throughout the process and allowed me the opportunity to communicate frequently while sending pics step by step. With Wes you will get everything you'd like as a customer with an entire experience which will include his professional opinion and educating on the job you request while receiving high quality work at a very fair and affordable price. I went into this getting more than I expected so I highly recommend not only his work but the 1 on 1 attention you will receive. A+++ for Craftsman Home and Furniture"

Frequently asked questions

Painters usually price a job by the square feet of the project. Sometimes theyā€™ll include flat fees for fixed expenses, like overhead and permits.

We make finding a painter easy. Simple use our directory to find a painter. Here you can browse local pros, check their reviews and do your first screening without ever having to call. Weā€™ve also prescreened all the pros for you, to give you peace of mind.

Interior painting makes for a doable DIY project. You can save some money and get a real sense of accomplishment by doing this yourself. And, with the right prep work ā€“ covering, taping and scraping ā€“ itā€™s fairly forgiving. But it takes a lot of time to move furniture, tape trim, prep the surface and cover your floor, let alone apply the actual paint. Instead, save yourself the time and hassle and find a local interior painter.

Leave exterior painting to the pros. Not only do you need to worry about the type and quality of the paint, youā€™ll also likely need a ladder and considerably more prep work. Youā€™ll likely need additional equipment like ladders, scaffolding and possibly a paint sprayer. Itā€™s almost cheaper to just hire a pro. Talk to a local exterior house painter about your project.

  1. Do your research. Understand what to expect and what to look for in a pro. Look at paint types, prices and costs.
    1. Interior home painting costs $1,000-$2,800
    2. Exterior painting costs $1,700-$4,100
    3. Painting a ceiling costs $150-$350
    4. Painting cabinets costs $350-$1,200
    5. Trim painting costs $500-$1,500
    6. Calculate paint coverage
  2. Call pros for site inspections and estimates. Always get three to five estimates.
  3. Check references, compare quotes, look at past work. After you have estimates in hand, do one final pass to compare the contractors.
  4. Sign a contract with the pro of your choice. You might need to make a down payment, usually 25% to 50% of the total project cost to cover material costs, but not all pros require this. Donā€™t pay for the entire project upfront.

  • A complete inspection. Each pro takes a walk around your home to evaluate the condition of your current paint, the size of the job and any obstacles for accessing the site. They do this to see how much prep work theyā€™ll need and estimate how long the job will take. The more thorough the inspection, the more accurate the quote.
  • Color consultation. Expect each contractor to have varying color options and suggestions. However, you have the final say.
  • Listen to the pro ā€“ theyā€™re experts after all ā€“ but donā€™t get pushed into a color combination or finish type that you donā€™t want. Understand the different exterior paints or interior paint choices before your pro arrives.
  • A rough estimate or complete quote. Finishing contractors vary here. Usually, they can quote straightforward projects on the spot. But some may need to take it back to their shop to run numbers and give you a detailed estimate with costs broken out. Neither method is better than the other, but just make sure to get multiple quotes.

  1. How long have you been in business? A long business history helps you avoid shoddy companies. Itā€™s hard for a service business to stay in business if they donā€™t do good work.
  2. Are you licensed and insured? Not all states require a license for painting homes, but many do. Always use one thatā€™s insured.
  3. Do you belong to any professional organizations? Youā€™ll find many online, like the Painting Contractors Association or the Finishing Contractors Association?
  4. Do you have other work I can look at? Always check a portfolio or, in the case of painters, itā€™s better to look at work they did a few years ago to see how well itā€™s held up.
  5. How long will the job take? Get a rough estimate but get it in writing.
  6. How many people are in your crew? This is especially important if you work remotely. More people generally means more noise, but theyā€™ll be done faster.
  7. Will I be in the way if Iā€™m home during the painting? You usually wonā€™t be in the way, but this question helps you understand what to expect while theyā€™re working. Theyā€™ll need to lay down coverings and do a lot of prep work.
  8. Do you guarantee your work? Never hire a painter who doesnā€™t guarantee their work. This often means theyā€™ll rush the prep work, since peeling never happens right away.
  9. What type of paint do you use, and how long is it rated to last? Different rooms need different paint and the exterior needs exterior paint. It comes in different grades with different guaranteed lifetimes.
  10. Can you supply a written estimate and contract? Never use a painter who isnā€™t willing to put his work in writing.
