Smoke from Canadian wildfires continues to be transported south by winds into the US resulting in moderate to unhealthy air quality across parts of the Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, Ohio Valley, and Midwest today. Some improvement is expected this weekend. airnow.gov
Map of forecast air quality for today for the contiguous US.
Air Quality and Health: Exposure to air pollutants such as particulate matter and ground-level ozone can cause headaches, irritated eyes and sinuses, fatigue, difficulty breathing, chest pains, asthma attacks, irritated throat and increased coughing. Poor air quality can be hazardous to anyone, and it can aggravate health problems such as asmtha, heart disease, and lung disease. The Air Quality Index (AQI) can help you track local air quality and understand the health risks of #wildfire smoke. When air quality is unhealthy, stay inside as much as possible and reduce outdoor activity. Check the AQI at airnow.gov.
Different colored flags showing different levels of air quality. The text says, "How do I get information about air quality where I live? Each day, you can find out what the air quality is like by checking the Air Quality Index (AQI) for where you live. The AQI tells you when high levels of air pollution are predicted for the day. You can use that information to plan for safe and healthy physical activity. Checking the AQI is easy -- anyone can do it! Look up the AQI online. Sign up to get email or text AQI alerts."

If your area is affected by #wildfire smoke, check your HVAC filter every few days and change it if needed. A clean filter will remove particles more effectively to protect your indoor air. Use a higher-efficiency filter (ideally MERV 13) if you can!
