SHARE ON:
The Current Employment Statistics (CES) program produces detailed industry estimates of employment, hours, and earnings of workers on nonfarm payrolls. CES State and Metro Area produces data for all 50 States, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, and about 450 metropolitan areas and divisions. CES National Estimates produces estimates for the nation.
Each month, CES surveys approximately 122,000 businesses and government agencies, representing 666,000 individual worksites.

In April, unemployment rates were lower in 14 states and stable in 36 states and the District
of Columbia. Nonfarm payroll employment increased in 5 states, decreased in 1 state, and was
essentially unchanged in 44 states and the District.

Jobless rates were lower in April than a year earlier in 252 of the 389
metropolitan areas, higher in 103, and unchanged in 34. Nonfarm payroll
employment increased over the year in 76 metropolitan areas, decreased
in 1, and was essentially unchanged in 312.
