WEAVE spectrograph achieves first-light observations for the study of galaxy evolution and collision
The Isaac Newton Group of Telescopes (ING) and the WEAVE instrument team present first-light observations with the WEAVE spectrograph, which is a powerful, next-generation multi-fibre spectrograph on the William Herschel Telescope (WHT) at the “Roque de los Muchachos” Observatory (La Palma, Canary Islands), now being commissioned on-sky and already generating high-quality data.
Astronomy and Astrophysics professor, Ignacio Negueruela and the researcher Sara Rodríguez Berlanas, from the Applied Physics department and part of the research group on Stellar Astrophysics of the UA lead by Prof. Amparo Marco, are part of the scientific team and are actively involved in the design, preparation and development of one of the eight major maps to be carried out with WEAVE: Stellar, Circumstellar and Interstellar Physics (SCIP), whose principal investigator is Professor Janet Drew, from the United Kingdom.
