Child & Family Services

South Dakota Title V Maternal and Child Health (MCH) Block Grant

The Office of Child and Family Services coordinates:

Nurses, Dieticians, Nutrition Educators, and Public Health Specialists deliver the following public health services at county offices.

 

Infants & Young Children

  • Immunizations
  • WIC - Supplemental nutritious foods, education, and referrals for women, infants, and children
  • Growth and development screening and guidance

Children & Adolescents

Pregnant & Postpartum Women

  • WIC
  • Pregnancy Care - Monthly visits with a nurse to provide education and support throughout pregnancy and after childbirth.
  • Bright Start Program - Free personal nurse visiting program offering support, advice, and information to eligible moms during pregnancy and until your child turns 2

Adults

  • Adult immunizations, including flu shots
  • Family Planning
  • Information and referrals to All Women Count - Breast and cervical cancer screening
  • Education and activities to promote health and prevent chronic and communicable disease
  • Worksite wellness

General Public Health Services

  • Links to local resources and health services
  • Guidance on nutrition and dietary needs
  • In-office screening for glucose, blood pressure, vision, hearing, and hemoglobin
  • Education and screening to improve health and wellness of individuals, families, and communities
  • Health promotion and disease prevention activities to reduce chronic disease and the spread of communicable disease
  • Community resources and needs assessment
  • Employer-based screening and teaching
  • Local crisis planning and preparation assistance
  • Doctor-ordered office services
  • HOTT - Health Occupations for Today and Tomorrow curriculum
