Lt. Gen. Scott A. Spellmon, 55th Chief of Engineers and Commanding General of the United States Army Corps of Engineers, made a visit to the Huntington District February 15, 2023 to discuss and see the progress being made on multiple projects.
Our rangers in the Muskingum Area are hard at work restoring pollinator habitat to bring more bees, butterflies, hummingbirds, and other pollinators to our public lands. Winter is a great time to seed native wildflowers and grasses so they are ready to grow as soon as spring arrives.
The Huntington District led an effort along with three other U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Districts in the Great Lakes and Rivers Division to meet with representatives from the Ohio state agencies to discuss their respective programs, as well as explore collaborative efforts for the future in the state’s public infrastructure projects. Along with the four district representatives, there were also representatives present from the Ohio Departments of Agriculture, Transportation, Emergency Management, Natural Resources, and the Environmental Protection Agency. Each representative had an opportunity to brief information regarding their respective programs and share collaborative ideas for the future.
BG Kimberly Peeples, Commanding General, Great Lakes and Ohio River Division visits the Portsmouth, Ohio Local Protection Project on her first stop of her visit to the Huntington District. This gave her the opportunity to see firsthand, the importance of this project and the fruits of the success of the levee safety program.
