NATO Public Diplomacy Division's Co-Sponsorship Grants
Do you have an idea for a project that could contribute to better understanding of NATO, its role and policies?
The NATO Public Diplomacy Division works actively to strengthen the Alliance’s public image, promoting understanding, trust in and support for the Alliance. It does so by contributing to a continuous process of international security debate and policy design, through a variety of people-to-people and digital programmes in NATO and partner countries. NATO can therefore help make your project a reality, providing advice, funding and practical assistance.
Co-sponsorship for conferences, seminars, workshops, public events and other relevant public diplomacy activities, such as digital, multimedia or online projects, on peace and security related issues is available in the form of discretionary grants from NATO's Public Diplomacy Division. Typically, recipients of these grants are Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs), universities, think tanks, and other pertinent civil society organisations.
The projects could contribute to the implementation of NATO’s Strategic Concept, such as strengthened deterrence and defence, investing more in defence, support to Ukraine and other partners at risk, strengthening resilience, NATO’s open door policy, challenges from the South and reaffirming NATO's common values.

For projects taking place in 2023, please submit your applications using the forms on this page by 30 November 2022. Projects should not begin before 15 February 2023 and must be completed by 31 December 2023.

Selection criteria
The NATO Public Diplomacy Division uses the following criteria to select projects for co-sponsorship:
- Relevance to NATO's current political agenda and communication priorities.
- Educational value and/or relevance to public discussion of peace and security issues; the contribution of the project to NATO's goal of developing an informed debate on these issues.
- Expected impact and reach of the project.
- Ability to use resources efficiently to achieve the expected outcome.
- NATO reserves the right to decline a project application from a grantee who previously failed to abide by the terms of a previous co-sponsorship grant with NATO.
