February job openings and layoffs and discharges decrease; quits edge up

The number of job openings decreased to 9.9 million on the last business day of February. The number
of hires changed little at 6.2 million, and quits edged up to 4.0 million. Layoffs and discharges decreased
to 1.5 million.

Job openings rate 9.1 percent in West Virginia in December 2022
In December 2022, West Virginia had the highest job openings rate, 9.1 percent, in December 2022, followed by Louisiana (8.7 percent) and Alaska (8.5 percent). The states with the lowest job openings rates in December 2022 were New York (4.6 percent), New Jersey (5.4 percent), Connecticut (5.7 percent), and Hawaii (5.8 percent).
