What is the Army Training Information System (ATIS)?

The Army Training Information System (ATIS, pronounced /ā'tis/) will be a fully automated, centralized system providing a Common Operating Picture (COP) for all Army component Soldiers, Leaders, and Civilians to plan, prepare, execute, and assess training. ATIS is the formal governance and acquisition program for integrating and synchronizing existing and evolving training information system capabilities and future requirements by reducing redundant systems & databases and facilitating easier, faster access to training information.

Training and Education Current State

Training Managers and Users must log into several disparate systems hosted at various sites with different log-ins to manage and manually coordinate training events.

This is BAD.

  • 28 disparate systems used for different aspects of training management
  • User required to enter duplicate data in separate systems
  • No shared standards across systems
  • Users create work-arounds for their unique circumstances
  • Users unable to use real-time data in the field
ATIS Objective State

  1. The Army Training Information System (ATIS) is provided as a Department of the Army service by the HQ Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC) Army Training Support Center (ATSC.)
  2. Information presented on ATIS is considered private information and may not be distributed or copied unless otherwise specified. Use of appropriate byline/photo/image credits are requested.
  3. For site management, information is collected for statistical purposes. This government computer system uses software programs to create summary statistics, which are used for such purposes as assessing what information is of most and least interest, determining technical design specifications, and identifying system performance or problem areas.
  4. For site security purposes and to ensure that this service remains available to all authorized users, this government computer system employs software programs to monitor network traffic, to identify unauthorized attempts to upload or change information, or otherwise cause damage.
  5. Except for authorized law enforcement investigations, no other attempts are made to identify individual users or their usage habits. Raw data logs are used for no other purposes and are scheduled for regular destruction in accordance with National Archives and Records Administration guidelines.
  6. Unauthorized attempts to upload information or change information on this service are strictly prohibited and may be punishable under the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act of 1986 and the National Information Infrastructure Protection Act.
