UNHCR Canada - Help for refugees and asylum-seekers

IMPORTANT NOTICE
If you are coming from the United States and intend on claiming asylum after crossing the U.S.-Canada border irregularly in-between official land border posts, note that new restrictions will come into effect as of 12:01 a.m. 25 March 2023. More information available on the government of Canada’s website.

Welcome

If you are fleeing your country because you fear persecution or risk to your life, you can apply for asylum in Canada. If you are granted asylum, you will receive refugee status and the right to stay. To apply for asylum, you must be physically present in Canada or be seeking entry into the country at a point of entry (airport, land crossing or seaport).

On this website, you will find resources to help you understand the Canadian asylum system.
