2023 42nd National Veterans Wheelchair Games – FAQs

Q: What COVID-19 mandates are going to be required in Portland this summer?

A: The Safety Playbook is posted on Wheelchairgame.org. There will be no vaccine requirement, however there will be daily testing and indoor mask standards. The Safety Playbook outlines our 2023 covid policies and procedures.

Q: Do I have to complete the full NVWG Registration for the 2023 NVWG atHOME events?

A: Yes, Veterans will have to complete the full registration to compete in the in person at atHOME events.

Q: Can I compete in both the in-person block and virtually?

A: Yes, you may compete in both the in-person events and the atHOME virtual events. Additionally, the 5-event limit rule is waived for 2023. See Registration page for more information. The virtual atHome events will take place June 19th-June 30th. Please read all registration information on virtual events.

Q: What events will take place virtually?

A: For the 42nd National Veterans Wheelchair Games:

Archery

Cycling

Trap Shooting

Adaptive Fitness

Air Rifle

Bowling

eSports (note – the eSports competition will occur online July 5)

Veterans attending the NVWG in Portland will have to choose between the events offered atHOME or the event in Portland. Cannot do both. (i.e., Archery, Cycling, Bowling, Air Rifle, Adaptive Fitness).

Q: Will I be required to wear a mask at all times indoors, including during my competitive events?

A: At all NVWG indoor events masks will be mandatory. Participants will not have to wear masks while competing, but once they are off the competition field (i.e. sidelines or away from the 9-Ball table) they must put the mask back on.

Q: Are families allowed to attend events?

A: Yes, but all spectators will be allowed to attend the NVWG. All covid protocols must be followed.

Q: Is the event still open to the public/spectators?

A: Yes, public spectators will be allowed to attend the NVWG. All covid protocols must be followed.

Q: Will my caregiver be allowed to attend events with me? If so, will they need to be vaccinated?

A: Yes, caregivers will be allowed to attend events. All covid protocols must be followed.

Q: When will registration open?

A: Registration will be open from February 1, 2023, until April 5, 2023. All medical forms need to be uploaded to the VA Box site by April 5, 2023. Please follow the registration guidelines per the NVWG Event Guide.

Q: When does travel information need to be submitted?

A: All travel information needs to be submitted by June 1, 2023. If travel is not submitted, we will assume that we you will not need assistance at the airport. We will not be providing luggage tags.  Please visit the Hotel & Travel page for more information.

Q: Where can I find my team’s hotel assignment?

A: Hotel assignments are listed on wheelchairgames.org, under the Athlete tab, under Hotel and Travel. Hotel room assignments will be posted February 2023.

Q: When will my registration be confirmed?

A: Confirmation emails will be sent in April 2023. Registration digital packets will be sent to all coaches by June 1, 2023. It will be the coaches responsibility to distribute to their athletes. Those athletes without a coach will have a designated point person to work with and will receive their final digital packet from them.

 

Q: Where can I find information about the 42nd National Veterans Wheelchair Games?

A: There are many places to find information on the NVWG. First, your coaches have all the up-to-date information. Second, please use the NVWG Event Guide for all registration and event information. Third, the wheelchairgames.org website is updated regularly. We also highly encourage you to download the NVWG app so you can stay up to date on the latest information or any changes.
